It was great while it lasted. Good cust service.
I bought this as a tool that I needed for making recurve bows. That means that I have been putting a lot of hours on it the last 1.5 years. I have not had any problems so far, even though it has been heavily used, including with very hard woods. My only wish for improvement would be to have more power and a larger table area. But for the price, it works great. Update: after less than 2yrs, the motor started smoking. I called Rockwell and they sent me a replacement unit, since this was still under warranty. However, with the future I have planned, I don't think this unit will be able to handle the hours of grinding that I will subject it too. So I did some research and decided to purchase a Grizzly floor standing unit (G1071), which cost A LOT more, but rates usage in terms of 1000s of hours. It is a beast of a machine. So, I would recommend this Rockwell unit for light hobby purposes as it is very useful to have in the shop for certain operations. However, if the hobby turns into long hours of use, it may not hold up to the workload. Rockwell is to be commended for their customer service and honoring their warranty.

Beware
I order this Rockwell purchase based on my recent purchase of the Bladerunner, which seems to work nicely, has great instructions, and was easy to set up. This oscillating spindle sander arrived today. I unboxed it, read through the abysmal assembly instructions (in stark contrast to the really great instructions accompanying the Bladerunner), and plugged it in to make sure it worked before I proceeded further. It came on, though the motor seemed harsh sounding, if that makes any sense. I will note that the cast-iron top had a little bit of rust on it. I proceeded to figure out how to assemble it (wasn't too hard), having never owned one of these before. I grabbed a scrap of cedar, and attempted to sand. Nothing...I checked the plug, removed the drum from the spindle, tried again, nothing. I reassembled the drum and paper on the spindle, turned it on, and the this time the motor started to turn slowly, and then came up to speed. I took my piece of wood and started to sand. It worked for about 30 seconds, and came to a halt. I rechecked the setup, and still no power. I checked the Rockwell website, under various categories, (including the obvious one...."oscillating tools"....and oddly, Rockwell does not list this product on its website. I even checked the packaging to see if there were indications that this was a return item mistakenly sent to my by Amazon, but it looks like factory original packaging, and arrived undamaged. Needless to say, after re-reading the other reviews, some of which reported similar dead machines, I'm returning this to Amazon in the morning, and ordering the Powertec sander. It's 60 plus more bucks, but I'm not willing to take a chance on the Rockwell again.

Rockwell Oscillating Spindal Sander
Received this product with free shipping from Fed Ex in great condition. The instructions are a little vague, but not really an issue being that it is simple to set up. The cast iron table is about an 1/8th of an inch thick and is tightly ribbed underneath. The plastic housing seems typical; I will have to check back later to see how well it holds up. I tested this product with a medium size spindle against a piece of maple. The 3.5 amp motor did not hesitate to remove stock efficiently. The motor is surprisingly quiet. The dust extraction is fantastic; I have an old ridgid vac that easily consumed all the dust from the table area. Priced on Amazon for $129.99. this is a very good machine. Will update review in about 6 months.

Rockwell RK9011 Osc. Spindle Sander
There are some jobs that you cannot do right without a spindle sander. I bought mine after completing a big project (glider swing) that really needed one. I recently did a shaped mounting board for a towel rack using my new sander. It worked great. The assembly instructions were not very good. They relied too much on photos and diagrams that were barely legible. Unfortunately, most tools today come with poor instruction, but with volumes of legal butt-covering warnings. Anyway this appears to be a good quality tool at a very good price. Ec Case Fresno CA

Rockwell spindle sander
For the price paid this sander is ok! First thing I noticed is table is really not large enough in the front half of sander.I still am trying to figure out why the back half has so much working space. When standing in front of it you must be very carefull not to tilt project you are working on. You only have about 3 inches of table in front of spindle. It makes a lot of noise but then again it comes down to the price. Knowning what I know now I would have purchased a DELTA. Bottom line, not a bad price & since woodworking is a hobby it does the job.

rockwell spindle sander
Arrived free shipping from Amazon in three days - great. I use it to build pine pole furniture. I don't know how I got along without one. It runs great and performs flawlessly. The table is a perfect setup, use the back for flat sanding and the front for angle (ie poles or long piece) sanding. Cuts sanding time by 98%. I can even put carving marks in the poles with the sander giving a nice hand crafted effect with no effort.

Rockwell Oscillating sander
Purchased this sander in Feb. 2010. Worked great for 10 months, then started to smoke, flames came out and I unplugged unit. I called Rockwell tools, told them the problem, and they sent out a new unit the next day. Great service, great guarantee. Sometimes you don't get that with an entry level tool or even a step up professional model.

Killer sander!
I use this sander primarily for sanding/sculpting the edges of solid body electric guitars and it works great! The motor is very strong and consistent. From pine, butternut and maple to cherry and claro walnut, this has done a fine job and doesn't slow down or hang up on the harder woods. My only wish is that the table/platform was a little bigger. Other than that I like this sander very much!

A little noisy but good value for the money
A little noisy but good value for the money. Unit is light weight but does not move during use. Stays put when placed on a flat surface. Adequate storage for sleeves and adapters but no place to put or keep the wrench and alternate washer. Simple solution was to attach a rare earth magnet to the side/top.

Great small part and detail sander.
Unit works very well. Description should say that #80 grit drums are included. Easy to set up and instructions are relatively clear. Small area for washer storage would be nice. Sanding drums are available but only in sets. Ability to buy individual sizes would be nice. Overall good tool
