Alarm is too quiet
Very nicely designed and solidly made but the temperature alarm is simply too quiet to hear, especially if there is a lot of ambient noise.

Still working after many years!
I use this quite a bit. All others fail after a short time. Pleasantly surprised at how long this has been reading temperature.

Didn't know this product existed until I watched "Good Eats"
I have been playing "Chicken" with my oven clock for years. Oh, I have a nice oven, but I didn't go by "Temperature" Done, but Time when done. I've had my taste of undone Chicken. It is some degree of hard and jiggly. I have had my taste of dry. The choking is the hint. I've learned what great chicken is like by my success and failures. Watching Alton Brown's show, I seen this probe with long cable to a Temp and Timer that was also magnetized to attach to the oven side. Well, I decided to make a different purchase here with a couple dollars from FREE Shipping. I found what seems like Alton's exact probe with cable and programmable Temp/Time Beeper box. I tested this with my thawed whole chicken breast (heart-shape with bone,) my store bought temp probe stick and programmable Temp and Timer oven. My first effort was flawed. I probed the chicken, move the cable closing the door and program the Temp for 170-degrees F (not 165.) The box beeped at 170-degrees F. However, the probe was peeking out the other side. It read the oven. How was I sure, my store-bought read "133" degrees F. I tried again, but the chicken reduced size, may be? I had a slightly higher temp with probe peeking, again. Third time, it worked precisely. The store-bought probe read the same temperature. Think this was a fluke? I make homemade pizza that requires Water and Yeast. Water warms fast, so pizza isn't fun to make due to this. Too hot, it's a cross between pizza and beer taste. To the point, I suspended the probe in the water.. away from the pot. The three-cups was at 100-degree F VERY FAST saving me more water. (more water, slower the temperature rise. NOTE: if you PRESS "START" button to stop, the Temperature will go up or down -- so you know the TRUE Temp it is by the time you get to your food cooking. I hit the "START" button to stop the beeping; the TRUE Temp was 112-113 degrees. Time I poured the water into my measuring cup and added the yeast, the temp was perfect. In short Pizza if fun, again. MANUFACTURE: make a device so the probe can be suspended say in water or liquid. I had to McGiver a holder using Thongs and rubber bands. To conclude, my experience is NEW, but I am excited using this product. Is there a better product out there, I have no clue. "Good Eats" influenced me to but this foldable flat to mini lap top shape. I didn't get into how the cable seems shorter. Still, it does the job. I use it for Temperature probe WARNING Beeps. I didn't get into how the Temp Probe counts UP than say Down. (Think Soccer Scoreboard, Football) So, you should get a IDEA how long it will take next time. I didn't get into It can run as a TIMER alone. If you want to cook something to the PRECISE Temperature, this will do the job. I would recommend this product without question.

Very Good; but . . .
So far it's a great product. But, why do manufacturers insist on using little bitty teensy font when labelling things? Among other things, the on/off switch is labeled in about 6 point font stamped out of the gray plastic case so there is no size and no color distinction.

Works great
Item works well but the case is a bit on the cheap side. I bought this to replace my old one that quit working after many years of use. It had a metal case and survived multiple drops off the kitchen counter over the years. I'm a little concerned the new one with the plastic case might not survive the drops.

not accurate over 100 degrees
I have had this thermometer for 9 months. It has not been accurate and I have cooked many roasts. Beef we usually pull at 125. Our thermapen showed 137- and we pulled at 122 -ruined! Solid well done! Last try we pulled at 125 and thermapen said 130. We tried to pull at a lower temp but it wasnt even accurate at that. We thought it was 3-5 degrees higher and adjusted. Today I simply boiled water. Every thermometer we have read 212 - except this. It ranged from 209-210 moving never steady and we suspect it gets more unstable as the temperature goes up.
