Best petsafe fountain model available but it could be awesome with some tweaks or available add ons

I’ve owned two of this refillable model and originally u bought the ugly exterior brown fountain with the two refillable gallon jugs on the back. The refillable feature is what sold it for me because trying to manage dog water levels outside in the Vegas heat sucks and why wouldn’t my dogs like cleaner water that’s not sitting stagnate. I will have to agree with some other reviews that the plastic quick release hose connectors suck since they are plastic as I have reordered replacement hose releases because the heat just eats up and makes plastic become brittle. I believe that some addition options would make it even better because every dog owner has different needs. First off how about offering higher grade hose fittings, some people complained about this and what they don’t know is that all of these parts are available online in brass but you would need to hunt them down online. Second how about a pump that also has LED lighting tails a attached that has adjustable colors and patterns. This last comment will explain to you why I have owned 2 of this model. After owning this one for a couple years I bumped into some fish tank pumps on amazon that lit up in patterns but it did have to high of a water flow so I had to scale it back some because it was about to blue the filter cover off! I also had to do some modifications to fit the new pump so I did some modifications that ruined the functionality to go back to OEM so I decided to buy it again. Fortunately for me I was able to buy it both times for a really good deal lower than petsafe sells it for. Lastly get this fountain filter business figured out and quit having all of these jacked up special kits to support each model. I’m sure your overhead is off the charts needing to have to support all of those different foam adapters and I’ve been quite disappointed in not getting much flexibility regarding purchasing that coarse L shaped sponge that has fit both of the models I owned but I’ve seen the rest of the models offered too. The foam isn’t available by itself and you can only buy it with the standard filters only. I usually buy the exterior kit that has 3 filters and 1 L sponge and then I’ll buy a 10 pack of the premium filters with that. I make my L sponges last longer by soaking them in a bleach dilute and then do a good flush so no bleach taste moves over. Whoever the one fountain owner was with the heavy black and green molds in the filters and sponge...dude you’re doing it wrong!! You can’t just hook the water to the fountain and then walk away for a few months, or leave the bowl out in direct sun all day long . If this wasn’t what you did then you either live in Flint Michigan or your just lying through your teeth because you didn’t take 10 minutes to acquaint yourself on the do’s and don’ts and the regular upkeep and cleaning needed for the fountain to be a healthy environment for your pets!! One last word of advise they do offer some replacement parts for all of their fountains and they were great on my first fountain because the white viewing lines on the sides of the two water bottles failed first before the surrounding brown plastic did and both tanks were worthless. I called their support line and they sent me 2 new tanks for free. I should have called them for the plastic hose parts too but I forgot to and it’s too late but I will do it next the plastic fails again. Good luck!

Best investment for thirsty dogs!

The media could not be loaded. **UPDATE 2/8/2021** Still going strong. Runs 24/7/365. I take it apart to clean all the plastic pieces because we have hard water which stains, and because one dog likes to 'wash' his toys in it sometime so it gets debris. I haven't take apart the pump to clean it in a couple years and I probably should but it still runs fine. The other day when I took it apart to clean it, when I reconnected the quick-disconnect I noticed it wasn't fitting tightly. I'm guessing I lost an o-ring or something when cleaning. $4 at Home Depot for a new hose quick-disconnect and it continues to run amazingly well. That's the first repair/maintenance other than cleaning its needed. I seriously could never go back to a regular water bowl. **UPDATE 11/7/2017** Over a year of constant use and I can still say this is one of the single best investments I've made as a pet owner! Dogs always have clean water, they thoroughly enjoy drinking from the 'fountain' part, and it's worked perfectly. Pop off at the quick release every couple months and take it apart and clean it, goes back together easy, and then continues to run like a champion. **Original Review from 8/10/2016** So far this is one of the best investments I've made. Recently upgraded from one dog to two, and constantly refilling the water bowl was annoying. I've had Drinkwell fountains in the past for previous pets and they've worked well, but eventually do require a refill. However, on the inspiration of another brave reviewer before me, I decided to take the chance and hook this up to auto-refill indoors. Works awesome! Let's start by saying this is a risk. The product is sold for hose hookup outdoor and refill indoor (which it has HUGE capacity so it wouldn't need to be filled that often). Outside, if something gets clogged or tipped over, the worst you're doing is wasting water and flooding your yard, indoors you're flooding the house! However, I researched a lot of these bowls/fountains with hose hookup and this one is substantial enough that I am confident the dogs can't tip it over and they have yet to prove me wrong. To minimize the risk of flooding the house if it clogged or something else failed, we did a few things: 1.) We hooked this up in the laundry room which has a tile floor and is already somewhat planned around the potential for a water leak. 2.) We split off the cold water line for the washing machine with a splitter that has it's own shutoff valve. We set the valve on the fountain side to be barely open so the water flows into the hose very slowly, and left the side going to the washer wide open so that fills at its normal rate. 3.) We set the adjustable float to the lowest fill level, and it could probably fill another gallon of water in the event of a failure before it starts to overflow. Having used Drinkwell fountains before, they do have a little noise (equivalent to say the refrigerator running) but it's not really a problem. I'm posting a video where you can hear the hum of the fountain. I found with past ones, if the pump started to get blocked by hair, food, or other things that the pets might leave behind in a water bowl, the limited flow will make it much noisier. However, it gets noisier BEFORE it would get to a point of not working. Basically, when it gets louder than it was when you hooked up, take it apart and clean it. So happy I made this investment. My dogs took to it right away, another the puppy was a little scared of the sound when it filled (another reason we turned down the flow on the fill, now he is fine). Parts needs to split off from a cold water washer line: - A hose splitter (I originally bought this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B019MS0HK8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but it didn't work because my hookups are too close to the wall and the grippy things on the twist connection stuck out too much. Ended up going to a local HD and buying this one: [...] - A male to male hose adapter (like this: [...] - A hose. I just bought another stainless steel washer hose because it was the right length. I've included video of it in operation, picture of it in it's natural habitat, and the two guilty culprits who consume all this water cause, well, dogs are great!

Works ok but cheap plastic fittings leak

The fountain works great and my dogs seem to really like it. However, the reason I bought it is for the convenience of leaving it hooked up to the hose outside for automatic refilling, as our two big dogs are major water drinkers. The plastic fittings are really cheap and spray water everywhere, on me and against the stucco of our house, when the hose is on. So I can't leave it on; still have to turn off and on when needed, or fill up the trough separately. Either way, I have to be prepared for a bath every time I go out there to refill it. The whole point was to be low maintenance. Disappointing...

Excelente para exteriores

Me parece una excelente opción pero tuve que devolverlo porque era demasiado grande para interiores. Fue error mío, no me percaté de las medidas. Los materiales parecen cumplir con lo esperado y lo había comprado en súper descuento por 500 pesos, así que fue una pena tener que devolverlo.

Great product

This product is great for my dog. He already loves drinking from water fountains so it was a no brainer when I saw this. It works indoors and out, and when I bought it I did buy extra filters. The tap water where I am is safe to drink but often times it has sand and other bits of dirt in it, so the filter is great for clearing it out for my fur baby. My only complaint is that the pump is a little loud. But I think this would be solved by putting a small mat under it to dampen the sound on the hard floor. Overall this is a great product.
