Decent Bike Light Best Suited for Visibilty

I don't do a lot of night cycling but inevitably will end up riding at dusk during the Fall or Spring when days are shorter. I've tried a bunch of different bike lights over the years and in that time I've realized that there is really a huge difference between bike lights meant for night riding and lights for visibility - that is to warn others to the presence of a biker. The Kryptonite Comet F500 falls distinctly into the latter category. It can be used for night riding but the light output is rather poor and I wouldn't risk riding in truly dark environments with this light alone. As a visibility light, this is a pretty okay product; it's inexpensive, has basic lighting features including always on, flashing, and quick interval strobe. The F500 can probably stand up to many years of use even with its inexpensive plastic exterior and components. Three AAA batteries (included) power the front light and provide juice for up to 15hrs. I've not been able to find any information on the light output (lumens) from the F500 and the product doesn't even show up on Kryptonite's bicycle lights product page/website. Like many bicycle lights, this one does not require the use of any tools for assembly. This light uses a built-in screw and clamping mechanism to clamp to a bike's handlebars and this feature works fine. Overall, if you're looking for an inexpensive light mostly for visibility purposes this is an okay choice. If you're looking for a more serious, truly nighttime riding light then I suggest looking for something a bit better. Recommended with caveats.

Abysmal build quality and dimmer than most flashlights

While the front light has it's problems (non-rechargeable, surprisingly dim), most of my problems are with the rear light. During installation, I noticed parts of the plastic mount were defective--the latch used to attach the light itself to the mount wasn't molded or cut properly--making it nigh impossible to mount without seriously bending the plastic. That itself was annoying, but the real problem with the build arose when I tried to detach the light from the mount. It was completely impossible to detach it completely from the mount without either cutting part of the mount, or (what I did) removing just the transparent red plastic along with the exposed battery.

Cheaply produced

I had purchased this product for a special Olympian for his bike,he loved it but after a rain storm his back light was not working upon further investigation I was fb ound that the seal that houses the battery compartment was fluad and allowed the water to enter it causing a short out of the lamp circuitry,it also emitted acidic liquids to form,

Excelente, me encanto alumbra muy bien, para el tamaño que es.

Es mucho más de lo que esperaba, pensé que no iba a alumbrar tanto, pero si alumbra muy bien, solo o me gustó la parte de atrás que no es fácil de poner y quitar, al parecer se tiene que quitar como si fueras a cambiarle la pila, no es como el de enfrente.

Not worth the premium

all plastic construction; weak clamp light was quite narrow, would be ok for opposing traffic to see you but won't be good enough if u want to add visibility to your line would be ok for a $10/pair definitely not worth the brand premium here.

Excellent set of lights

Somewhere I read this set was more fit to let others see you, than to actually see the road yourself. Well, I disagree. The front light is bright enough for you to see the road ahead for a couple of meters, just far enough to ride safely. The backlight is also pretty bright, enough for any cars or other vehicles to see you with no problem. Really just the perfect basic light set at a very cheap price.
