Rails are a great way to mount new sinks, but the largest size is outrageously priced
Rails like this are a great way to mount a new sink from below, especially heavy ones made of quartz (synthetic stone.) It's a more straightforward method for installation, and allows for removal should that become necessary. As the years pass, things can shift. Caulking can degrade and come loose. Using this installation method, those issues shouldn't ever become a significant problem. I'm retired, living in what's likely my last home. Whenever I buy something, in the back of my mind is long-term maintenance. Unless I'm struck by some catastrophic disaster, I want everything in my home to outlive me. My only complaint is the outrageous price the company charges for the largest size. Double the price for nothing more than a couple extra inches of metal. Highway robbery, they call it. But the smaller size wouldn't work in my particular situation, so I had little choice. I suppose it could be worse; many companies are charging hundreds for similar products. I suspect it's possible to buy two rods and a few nuts and bolts, and fashion your own. After all, that’s what this product really is. Maybe five or $10 worth of parts altogether. Unfortunately, I found myself in a predicament where I have a lot of my own DIY work to do to my cabinetry. I'm not in the mood for extra complications. What sort of DIY work? My children bought me a brand new manufactured home in which to spend my remaining years. While such homes are a huge improvement over what they used to be, the makers still cut lots of corners. As it turns out, cabinetry is a major candidate for cost-cutting. What looked to be common cabinets, turned out to be hollow shells. Mere façades. There is no way the countertops can be upgraded; not as they are. Installing a new sink from below is also undoable. The so-called cabinets have almost no hope for lasting the rest of my life; not without significant reinforcements. Modifying the so-called cabinets hasn't been easy. A lot of wood of various sizes, reinforcing L & T brackets and others, a whole lot of GOOP adhesive, half a dozen Dremel Metal discs to cut through staples, several dozen long wood screws, a metal detector to find the staples, etc, etc... So what seemed at first seemed a straightforward project, turned into a major headache. Hence, I forked over the money for the outrageously overpriced longer rails. I have enough headaches to deal with for now. Would I recommend someone else by this product? That's a tough question to answer. If they don't plan to stay in their home for decades to come, probably not. Just let the next owner deal with it when it wears out!
