Pretty good
It took 3 hours after dark to catch a opossum. I used apples and kiwi because there are a lot of cats around. It worked but I don't think it ate the kiwi. This thing is more sturdy than the cheap ones that you get from tractor supply or harbour freight, like another reviewer said. I heard the doors slam shut from in the house. 1 down at least 1 to go. Then I'm going to get a small trap for these squirrels. They ruined my patio cushions, my tree, my siding, and they're always talking smack to my cats

worth the $$
i had a piece of junk trap i bought at tractor supply that i have been struggling with for a while, using it to trap feral cats and get them fixed and shots, was loaned one of these traps and realized what low grade crap my old trap was so i bought one of these. This trap caught the first cat that wondered into it, my POS from tractor supply that cost half as much failed 14 times that day, (as in the cats walked into the 'trap', ate all the bait food and waltzed back out again) that says all there is to be said.

Typical Havahart trap
Good trap. Was hoping cats would be more likely to go in since they can see through it. Like that you can set both doors or just one. I was hoping it would give the cats more room but it's about the same as the one door trap. Overall, good quality trap.

After some tweaks, Trapped on very 1st night !
It is big and somewhat heavy! Needed some tweaks to trigger bar to make trap more sensitive. Used pliers to slightly bent trigger bar to for >90 degree angle. Used pieces of apple, walnuts coated with peanut butter and some dried cherries on small plate behind trap and used only in single door mode. It did catch it when it came back for feast 2nd time. Observations: Heavy, sturdy. Need to follow direction if you want to set both doors. Definitely need to tweaks to make trap more sensitive. Hopefully change in future design will be considered by company to allow for adjustment.

Works great
I'm in suburban Utah. Never even new raccoons ventured this far into town out here till i found one trying to get into my attic. So, bought this trap. Opened the box and with ten minutes I had it set. I used a little bit of tuna fish on a small piece of tin foil as bait. Caught Rocky the raccoon in less than 10 minutes. Put the trap on my back deck and started making dinner and heard kathwap! Said no way, went out and looked and sure enough there was rocky raccoon looking kind of pissed. Took him for a ride up in the mountains about 30 miles away and set him lose. Came home, set the trap up again and have another raccoon captured today. I'd say the trap works great and apparently raccoons like tuna in oil...

Caught two possums on first week of use
I ordered this to try to catch a stray cat that has been in the area. Trap came in box ready to use. You can set the trap for one or both sides. If you are only setting up one side, it's a piece of cake. Setting up both sides had a bit of a learning curve. I have a large wingspan, and was able to figure out how to arm both doors by myself. I can see how it can be annoying for a person with smaller arms/hands to set up both sides by themselves. If you have two people, then there is no issues. When I trapped the possums, I used tuna for the first catch and dry cat food for the second catch. They'll eat anything apparently. The plate by the carrying handle gives you piece of mind when transporting. Releasing the animal was a breeze as well. I felt safe the for the entire event (though I also wore gloves). The cage seems sturdy enough. There was not damage to the cage when trapping the possums. If I happen to trap a raccoon, I can't say if it would be the same outcome. I think it'd be ok. Trip plate seems sensitive enough to trap small animals, but did not trigger during a heavy rainstorm. Will continue to use and see what takes the bait. Overall, very happy with the purchase. Four out of five stars and docking one star for awkwardness of setting up both sides.

Easy to set, just didn't catch the right critter!
We actually purchased this to catch 2 groundhogs who took up residence under our shed. 1st night we baited the cage with celery and lettuce, covered it with evergreen branches, blocked off both sides of the cage with a barrier so the groundhogs would have to come through it. Well, we caught a stray cat! LOL Husband turned that loose. 2nd night, reset the cage and caught this little feller! Rocky Raccoon now lives 17 miles from us. LOL ! Evidently you can definitely catch animals, but no groundhogs so far. We were hoping to catch the 2 groundhogs before they go into hibernation. If not this fall, may have to wait until spring. Arrrggg! This is getting more complicated than we thought!

Won't lock when activated - have used twice and both times cat escaped
Won't lock when caught, cat escapes gravity only holding doors shut until manually locked - Have used this items twice and both times the cat has escaped. As we bought it last year - window for return has closed. Which sucks. It's not like your using this item every day.....

Not the best
The idea of this trap with 2 doors is good, unfortunately the foot pad that the animal steps on to trigger the door closed has a very short travel, thus requiring more pressure on the plate to trigger the door latch. The raccoons were able to enter the trap, steal the bait, and exit without triggering the doors. Other traps I have used (borrowed) had a much larger travel on the trigger plate requiring less force to close the door. I thought this trap would have been the same but unfortunately it’s kind of useless.

Great trap
Works awesome once you figure out it's quirks, first weekend I set it up was a busy couple nights I caught 2 huge raccoons and a skunk, the skunk was a challenge to release with out getting sprayed

Functional right out of its box
Not received damaged unlike the #1089. No assembly needed either. Great. ADDENDUM: the #1045 ( the 2 entrances trap) caught separately 3 raccoons using a cheap dollarstore Chinese sardines can. That's 82 cents per raccoon. The single entrance collapsible trap #1089, set alongside and baited with same sardines brand, caught nothing. Caveat Emptor!
