Super Cute, Light-Weight, and seemingly durable

I bought this through Amazon after seeing it elsewhere because it was marginally cheaper and I'd be armed with the Amazon A-Z guarantee and superior customer service. It is even cuter in person! It comes in two pieces which easily snap together and do come apart again for storage (kind of hard to see in the picture, but it is not flat when you lay it down to put in a drawer or cabinet - the two tiers of candle holders sit at right angles to each other adding dimension and overall ador-a-bility). I've used it once, on a very exquisitely decorated cake. Notably, contrary to my initial concerns, it was not heavy enough to sink into the deep frosting on the top of my cake. It seems durable, and I expect to have this for years to come. I read some reviews in which reviewers had issues finding candles thin enough to fit. To me, the candles included appear to be of standard width. I recently found myself in the party supply store, Party City, and eyeballed the birthday candles for width. Almost all of the candles stocked in that particular store appeared to be similar in width to the ones included in the package with the Cake Candelabra. This led me to believe that there is a standard width for such things and that this holder accommodates that standard, but I can't say that with 100% certainty since I didn't actually fit any candles into the holder. I really don't expect that to become an issue, at least for me. I usually try to list Pros/Cons when reviewing for Amazon, but I just can't think of anything negative about this item. I am truly pleased with my purchase, especially since I saved a few bucks. We recently had a celebration with a really fabulous cake and everyone commented on the Candelabra. I highly recommend it!

Love it!

I got this for my husband's birthday cake since it's the first birthday we're celebrating since we got married--I decided to do ridiculous and over the top things for him that he will always remember. I thought this fir that description perfectly (I just made a plain, non-fancy sheet cake), so of course, I had to get it! I absolutely love it! I got the exact reaction I had exected, but he did really like it. I could tell from the photographs that this candelabra was plastic, so I was fine with that. It would have been cool if it were metal, but that would have easily at least tripled the price. I really liked that the stick in the bottom of the stand was wider than what most cake toppers have; I could see how this might be a little tippy depending on how you would choose to put the candles in. Obviously, I would suggest putting all of the candles in before lighting them and using a match or a clickly stick lighter. I tried to keep one out and light all the others, and that didn't work out very well (but hey, it was all an experiment). By the time I got the rest of them lit, some of the candles had already burnt out and the last (lighting) one was a LOT smaller than all of the others. Much more so than I had expected it to. But again, it was an experiment. And the last candle did go in the holder just fine even after it was already in the cake. I like that you can take the top half off and easily compact it for storage purposes, and it makes it a lot easier to clean as well. I absolutely love this item and will be using it again and again for future birthdays and occasions!

Whoops! I learned my lesson. Don't use this thing for photos, it MELTS!

I purchased this item to use in my photography. I photograph dolls and other miniatures. This candelabra is PERFECT for 1:6 scale dolls, and it could easily work for other "playscale" sized dolls & bears. However, I do NOT recommend it. My candle-holder was lit up for just a little over 10 minutes; at which point, it literally exploded into flames. My doll & other prop items are fine -- I had a bowl of water near me, just in-case I'd need to douse the flames. Which I did. I tried to salvage it so it might be used for other photos...but after I had dunked my candle-holder, it came out of my bowl of water as a ball of hot plastic. I might buy another one and line the inside of the candle-holders with a piece of metal, to stave off the plastic from catching aflame. I'm not sure how my little generic birthday candles started this thing on fire, but they sure did. Perhaps I shouldn't have used all of the slots -- you can light a BUNCH of candles on this thing all at once. Or, perhaps, the candle-holder just can't bear to be lit for more than a minute at a time. I'm not really sure. Oh, by the way, if you want to "display" this thing, you'll have to cut-off or file-away the little spoke on the bottom....this thing has a plastic wedge underneath, to hold it on-top of a cake. It's totally too big to be used with cupcakes, fyi. Just a heads' up. But for doll & bear photographers...if you have a dollhouse, DON'T lite this thing in there. This thing would devastate a Greenleaf house in a matter of minutes! I was amazed at how quickly this thing burned. And it wasn't just "one" of the holder-thingies burning massive balls of flames; it. was. ALL. of. them. I love this thing and I do really want to get another one and attempt to "fire-proof" it, 'coz, as far as appearances go, this thing is one sexy prop!! But, uh, I'm not too hopeful. This thing is totally not safe. If I find a way to make it flame retardant, then I'll re-vamp this review. For now, I'm leaving it at 1 star. You've been warned!
