I like it a little better

Not all light switches are identical. I bought this one to replace a similar Leviton switch in my bedroom because the on/off click of that one was too loud for me. Cooper isn’t as well known as Leviton but they make an equally good product. They are perhaps best known in to contractors rather than hardware store customers. Both switches are the Decora type paddle switch. Both have screw and push-in terminals. The Cooper is slightly slimmer, helpful if you are working in a box stuffed with wires as I am. Here are the other differences: 1. The Leviton’s illumination is substantially brighter. In fact you can see the light clearly even in daylight. I have Leviton’s all over my house and generally the extra brightness is a good thing. Except in the bedroom. The less-bright bulb in the Cooper is appreciated when the switch is right next to my bed. 2. The Cooper has softer more rounded contours for the switch paddle. Not a big deal but it is a bit more pleasant to touch. 3. The Cooper’s white finish is very glossy, whereas the Leviton is more of a matte finish white. That is also a personal preference issue, but to me the Cooper looks a little more “decorative”. 4. Neither switch is silent (which is what I would have preferred), but the “click” is slightly quieter on the Cooper. If you are turning the light off after a spouse has already fallen asleep that can make a difference. I simply moved the Leviton to a guest room where the brighter illumination is a plus feature for guests. It would take a lot to rate a light switch as “I love it” but I do like the look and feel of the Cooper and following Amazon’s guidelines I rate it as 4-stars.

Why would a light switch have instructions referencing a neutral white wire???

Examine the schematic and, if you are familiar with this very simple circuit, you will see that the load was mislabeled in their schematic as neutral, white. Being it was lighted this lead me to believe that it possibly a neutral lead was needed. I'll admit that this is one of the only lighted light switches I've installed, but all the other light switches I've encountered only switch source (most commonly red or black) to load. This lead to a lot of wasted time scrutinizing the drawing and researching Youtube videos to try to determine which was the load connection only to discover that this switch is like any other switch - black to black. However, hooked up exactly the same as any other single pole switch, the light does come on when the switch is in the off position. Too bad I discovered, much to my dismay, that this switch was allowing 45 volts to travel to the load in the off position! Absolutely unacceptable on more than one front imo.
