Amazon, get your listing right! I had assumed that the listing was updated since Utah's review below, especially since many Amazon listings mention Dexter by Schlage. This one does not. This is not a first brand Schlage, it is a Dexter by Schlage. Big bold letters on package. For ten bucks more, I could have bought a Schalge original. Some of Amazons listings indicate Dexter lock by Schlage, others like this one do not. I bought this thinking it was a Schlage original as that is the listing on Amazon. A quick internet search (before I bought this) is very clear: Dexter was a stand alone brand (would you have bought a Dexter lock when it stood alone? No.) purchased by Schlage. Dexter locks are still made in the Dexter, not Schlage, plant. Locksmith comments online: Dexter are inferior locks. There's even a youtube video of a gentleman disabling a Dexter lock with a "skeleton" key and a small mallet in ten seconds. This Dexter lock has a lifetime warranty on mechanism, but the issue, based on my online research, is that the mechanism gets loose, jiggly, jangly, whatever word you desire. So, yes, it still technically works, but the knob and the key rotation become loose. This is less likely, by far, with a Schlage original. Another point about Dexter is that the knob, where one puts their hand, is small. It's hard to describe, but I can see through the package that the turning knob itself is smaller than my Schlage original. Weird. This is going back to Amazon, on their dime, but my inconvenience, pronto. List your items right Amazon! The Amazon reps know nothing more about this product than the listing itself, so we are really left to fend for ourselves. I'm off to my big box store to buy a genuine Schlage, in person.
