Where has this been all my life???
So let me start by saying that I am not always an early adopter. I’ve seen these for years, but as a southern girl, I’ve always kind of prided myself in my ability to start a fire. Well, y’all, we accidentally got the wrong charcoal one time (which actually turned out to be right) and we got lump charcoal. At around the same time, we’d also gotten one a kamado grill. I couldn’t get the coal to light and I don’t believe in lighter fluid. One of my friends has had a kamado for years and does all kinds of fancy stuff with it. We had ours for like a year before I even touched it. Enter the lump charcoal. So I was lamenting the waste of money on the wrong charcoal and the stupidity of this grill we never use when he said, “Here’s what you do…” and he proceeded to school me real quick. So I went onto Amazon and ordered this along with some firestarters for kamado grills, and I’ll be darned if it didn’t start right up! So long story short, I needed this for a long time and never knew. I may never start a grill any other way. Oh, it’s sturdy and feels thick, like it will last. I did use a pot holder to pick it up to dump the coals out. The handle didn’t feel hot, but I was two glasses of wine in and wanted to be safe. I did NOT WANT A “hold my beer” moment. Also, and this might have been the wine, but I did not take the paper off (which the directions were on) when I put the chimney thing over the firestarter, so that created quite a bit of smoke but not the good kind, so do your neighbors a favor and take that sucker off. Unless you don’t like your neighbors, in which case, screw ‘em. Seriously though, no matter how you grill or what type of charcoal you use, this will make your life much easier.

It’ll do
After nearly a decade with an old Weber chimney I finally wore it out to the point that i needed a new chimney. I’m cheap so I tried this over the Weber as it was half the cost or less. This works… Here is what could use improvement: 1: Kingsford has sharp edges on the stamped handle particularly the top part of the metal bracket holding the handle on. Weber was finished off with better detail. Kingsford does hold your hand further away from the chimney which can be nice if you happen to leave the coals in a bit longer than planned. 2. Weber’s bottom is a cone shaped wire formed piece. Kingsford is flat with stamped holes. I’m too new with this Kingsford unit but I loved the Weber’s feature. Not much energy loss due to fire just hitting metal. I also felt like that upward cone shape funneled heat into the heart of my coals. I’m overcoming this for now on the Kingsford by using a second page of newspaper in the bottom. But honestly, I’ll give it to Weber here as well. Kingsford needs that funnel shape even if they still stamp the bottom. 3. Weber vented higher up the Chimney. I do believe this is another feature that helped stoke the chimney particularly on windy days. Honestly a gift and a curse on real windy days. Again, the Kingsford is new and has been alright. But I think I’d prefer more vertical venting. I’m summation, I’m fine with my purchase knowing I did this to myself. But I may just accidentally run this chimney over with my truck so I can justify buying a replacement Weber someday.

SO CONVENIENT!
It's very difficult to start the charcoal due to high winds. This product helps a lot! You can use newspaper or cardboard to light up from the bottom. Just wait about 15-20 minutes or so then the charcoal is ready to go!

Works like a charm even in windy days!
Pile up, lighter fluid sprayed over, light ---- 30 mins later red hot charcoal ready!

The price is right, get it
No reason to pay retail for this. There is nothing to it but it really makes a huge difference in using charcoal. Much faster starts and big heat.

Great... BUT...
Be careful, wear gloves. The handle still gets hot. Otherwise, it works great!

Great
Really easy to get your charcoal blazing hot. No lighter fluid needed.

Work's Great
It works very well but there are some sharp corners on it so you have to be careful.

Weber is better
You would think they would all work much the same. My old Weber finally came apart so picked this up cheaper. Figured Kingsford should know. It is smaller and does not have as many vents. It just does not seem to light as fast, and I always a little short on briquettes. Not a big deal in the grand scheme but it seems funny that in 2022 there can be a performance difference in BBQ lighters!

Saves starter fluid
Works just fine. However, the rivets do not withstand the heat and broke off after the second usage, leaving the base unsecured. I replaced the rivets with small nuts and bolts and it should last a lifetime. I use dry twigs and branches to get it started. Then I pour the partially lit charcoal over a bed of unlit charcoal and wait 5 minutes for it to be ready for cooking. If you are using lumps as I do, try to avoid having the smaller pieces fill up the chimney so that the air flow remains unobstructed.

Excelente producto, precio calidad y funcionamiento

Almost Great
The baffle between the starter material and charcoal is held in with...get this...flimsy aluminum rivets. Guess what happens to those aluminum rivets when the heat of burning starter material and charcoal gets to the point of melting aluminum? You betcha...those aluminum rivets fall apart, and the baffle falls out. Aside from that bad poor choice of materials, and the fact I have to fix it, it works fine.

Awesome
We have been using these for years. It only last a few summers as the heat eventually makes it fall apart but it is still worth the money. Charcoal is the way to go!
