Quality Control is lacking, but finally working

So the first one I got did not work for the low voltage. No yellow LED and it did not detect anything properly. I used in normal 110 mode and placed near my USB end of a cord and it beeped. I put it in 12 v mode and it beeped. Or maybe it was never in 12 v mode. Amazon replaced that one. The next one I get, I open the batter cover, nearly needed pliers to open this one, and it seemed awfully shallow area for the 2 batteries to fit in. I checked since it was so hard to get the end cap off. I slide in the first battery and it did not want to slide down all the way. There should be room for 2 AA batteries and one was not going in. I took that out and it seemed there was something inside. I tapped, shook and finally had to swing hard for it to come out. The pic here shows a very dented battery that is green and silver. The el'cheapos that come with are a brownish color. The packaging had not been opened, so this came from the manufacturer this way. After getting this one out, I put in the two batteries with no issues. I tested 110 more and it worked as expected. I put it in 12 v mode and it I got the yellow LED, but it did not defect USD 5 volt power. Not sure if this was user error or I have another non-working unit. I will update if I find this one will not work either.

The best voltage sniffer

I've used tons of voltage sniffers at work everything from fluke to you name it, this brand South wire is the best that I have seen so far and the most durable. I have three of them around the house at work etc. I hope they do not stop making these every once in awhile I will break one when it falls out of my pocket and goes to concrete five stories down and I have to get a new one so hopefully they will continue to make these I put my life on the line with this tester and it is not let me down.

Wouldn’t work for quick checks on duplex outlets . Couldn’t keep it returned

I've been an electrician for over 30 years, and this is the best non contact voltage tester I have owned.

Best tester I've had so far

For the years I've only bought the Klein tester thinking it was the best but the button on those are finicky and would take take multiple presses to turn on/off. This tester works alot better and comes with a handy light. It also seems to be built sturdier. I remember breaking a Klein tester once or twice, this tester I've had for almost 2 years and it still works like new.

Very nice potentially life saving tool

I've had this for a couple of years now and I've used it multiple times. I really like the colored leds and sound but what really made me appreciate this was when I had a ground fault electrical outlet. When using the non contact ac detection feature it began flashing and beeping a good 2 feet from the outlet. I'm not sure what would cause this to trip the sensor that far but it immediately made me shut the breaker off and check the wiring. Either way this has been in my pocket on every electrical job and I'll for sure be using it in the future

Very good voltage tester

The Southwire 40150N NCV tester works as advertised. Removing the battery endcap for the first time was a bit confusing because the instructions had wrong information (it seemed to be referring to another tester). The flashlight comes in very handy; I use it much more often than I thought I would.

Not as good as the Fluke

With the Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert, you can see which conductor is live, Southwire is a bit too sensitive... Other than that is a good little gadget.

Excellent and sensitive in detecting current

The tool does exactly what it is advertised to do. A built-in flashlight is a nice feature. Made my project easy to complete.

Better than a Klein tic.

Better than the Klein tics but not as good as Fluke. I Would get another, and suggest it if you dont want to pay for a fluke tic. Good tool for the price. Bright flashlight, and seems to be accurate with power so far.
