From Great To Terrible in 3 Months
When this product first arrived, I really loved it. It did everything it claimed to do. I could tear off towels with one hand, and I loved the sound of the racheting mechanism as the spring rod in the center rotated. After about 3 months, however, the racheting mechanism simply stopped working. The towel rod spun freely, and I could no longer tear off towels with one hand; I'd get 15 towels instead of one. A few days later, and the mechanism had seized completely. Now, what used to be a one-hand operation is difficult even with two hands, because the towel dispenser does not rotate, or rotates only 1/4 turn, and then seizes. There is no warranty on this product, so if you get a lemon, you'll be making lemonade with your tears as you weep over your paper towel roll dispenser that no longer works. Edit: I disassembled the paper towel dispenser to determine whether it could be repaired, and this is what I found. The racheting mechanism is made from two plastic parts. The first is a star-shaped center piece with "arms" that extend from the points, and the second is the outer bezel that rotates around the center arm. The outer bezel is visible on the assembled product as the black "knob" at the base of the paper towel rod. In essence, the racheting mechanism is like putting a card into the spokes of your bicycle wheel -- it makes a clicking noise. What I found was that all of the plastic "arms" from the inner star piece had broken off and were lying inside the bezel. So the rod would free-spin until one of the broken pieces happened to jam the bezel, and then it wouldn't spin at all. I called Kamenstein's customer support number to try to order a replacement star-shaped piece, but so far they have not returned my call. The internal components of this product are plastic, and function by passing the ridges on the inside of the bezel over the plastic arms of the inner star as you unravel your roll of paper towels. That's the clicking sound you hear. But this presents two unavoidable problems. First, the brittle plastic arms can break, as happened to mine. Second, the ridges on the inside of the bezel will eventually wear out, and the rod will spin freely -- no more clicking sound or racheting motion. This is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of time. The parts will wear out, probably sooner than you'd like to think. I bet there are a lot of 5-star reviews here that will come back and change their minds in six months or so. Edit: Two weeks later, I finally received a call from Kamenstein. They are not able to supply replacement parts. However, they sent me a completely new unit, and did not ask for the original one back. The new version they sent, though, is very shoddy compared to my original. What used to be a lovely compliment to my kitchen has been transformed into a cheaply made knock-off. The center post is not straight, and the knob on top is crooked to the degree that the towels still cannot spin freely. Extremely disappointing.

THE best paper towel holder!
These are my favorite paper towel holders - and I have owned a lot of them. I must own at least 8 of these from kitchen to bathrooms to laundry to garage. They are well made, high quality, look nice, and have the perfect amount of tension/rachet so you can easily rip off a paper towel with just one hand. They are heavy-weight and weighted on the bottom with a non-skid bottom so they stay put if you have a yanker in your family. (Hubby!) Not tippy at all, very solid. Best of all, you don't have to unscrew the top to put a new paper towel roll on - the paper towel roll just slips perfectly over the top, yet it never slides around. Who wants to constantly unscrew/screw the top every time you add a new roll? My only complaint is that they will corrode a little bit after a few years, but we live on the ocean and pretty much everything corrodes in the salt. If you are inland, these will last a long long time. Very happy with these and have even given these as presents to my wimpy-paper-towel-holder friends.

Best holder I've had so far.
This paper towel holder is attractive, sturdy, and provides a good "tear off" very well. Though having to remove the screw on top to replace towels will seem a nuisance at times, this attractive top probably helps to stabilize the unit. Guests using it in my kitchen comment favorable & ask where I got it. So far this is my favorite paper towel holder and I have been using/changing these throughout my 57 years of marriage.

Very good looking (for a paper towel dispenser) and easy to tear off a sheet one-handed. I have two in my kitchen and have kept one in the powder bath since the start of the pandemic so that guests don't have to share a hand towel.

Heavy weighted bottom, aesthetic design, very convenient to have throughout the home and easy to use....
I have several of these paper towel holders. They are the most sturdy and effective paper towel holders I have found. They are very attractive for what they are and I have at least one in each room, 8 in total. In the bedroom we have one on each side of our bed - always in easy reach, one in each bathroom, 2 in the rather large living room. My apartment is rather art-focused, with original mid 20th century modern Knoll furniture throughout with original art on the walls. It's on the top floor of a 30 story building with an expansive view of the city. I mention this to indicate how satisfied I am with not only Kamenstein's Stainless Steel Paper Towel Holder's functionality but its appearance. Over the years I have ordered other brands, both the well-known ones and the more obscure but they always go back or get discarded. These Kamenstein Perfect Tear Paper Towel Holders have a strong heavy bottom weight so they do not tip over at all easily. I have people in my apartment a fair bit and my partner, who has a chronic, declining medical issue, is dealing with an erratic runny nose that starts unexpectedly. He wants paper towels rather than tissues to deal with it. (Tissues are too fragile he says.) And he needs to have them in reach rather quickly. The Kamenstein's are perfect for this. I use Bounty's Huge Size, Select-a-Size Rolls http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HFQ2T06/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which I love and there is absolutely no problem with the Kamenstein holding it while I or anyone else tears off one or more sheets. BTW -- a number of people have commented on how convenient it is to have paper towels so readily available and have decided to do the same.

Kamenstein Makes the Best Paper Towel Holders
I have tried many paper towel holders but I always come back to the Kamenstein holder. I have found that their product is the best. I am using this holder in my laundry room and I have two others in my kitchen and wet bar. They are sturdy and last forever. I definitely recommend this product.
