Great Analog Design, But Flimsy Plastic Material
I ordered this min-max thermometer to figure out how hot and cool my yurt and greenhouse get, as they both are susceptible to large temperature swings. I saw a friend with a very similar thermometer to this design and his seemed to be doing a great job, so I decided to order a similar looking product. What I especially love about this thermometer is it's analog setup. There are no batteries to change or circuits to get damaged from water, freezing, heat, etc. I actually had an expensive digital thermometer for this same purpose in my greenhouse and it ended up short-circuting after less than a year due to the high humidity. So this no-frills design appels to me. It appears to be pretty accurate from what I can tell and resetting it is as simple as turning a dial. As the current temperature dial moves it physically moves the min/max dials and they stay in that position until either a new min/max is reached, or until it is resset. theory this thing should be able to keep going and going forever. My only concern is that it seems to be made of a rather flimsy, very cheap feeling plastic. Paying over $20 for a product like this, I kind of expect a little better quality of the materials here. For that reason it is extremely lightweight, but it also feels like that it could be broken easily from simply dropping it on the ground. As you can see from the photo, there is a bracket in the back to be able to hang this from the wall on a nail or screw. It also sits fine on a flat surface as well, which is how I currently have it. Overall I would probably recommend this product but I'd like to see how it holds up long-term before giving a more hearty recommendation. I will also use this in the very high-humidity conditions of my greenhouse to see how it holds up under those conditions, and hopefully post an updated review in the future. Also, FYI, I did NOT receive this product in exchange for anything. I paid full price for this product and I'm writing this review completely on my own accord. Please let me know if you found this review helpful. PRO: analog, easy to adjust, accurate, lightweight, able to hang from wall CON: flimsy material

They do there job
To use as a max./MIN. IN the curing of concrete test cylinders.

Too easy to jar min/max pointers to new positions
The dial is easy to read in Celsius; the Fahrenheit scale is really small. One resets the min and max pointers by turning the white knob, which is connected to a lever that can be used to push the min clockwise and the max counter-clockwise. (You must then turn the knob to get the lever to point downwards; otherwise, it will prevent a pointer from moving.) The black temperature pointer, which appears to be quite accurate, pushes the min and max pointers, so no battery is needed. The first device that I received had a very weak connection between the reset knob and its lever: one had to turn and turn to get enough friction to move the lever. The min max pointers were also *very* loose: the slightest vibration (even on another refrigerator shelf) caused them to drop. Useful to tell you if you've had an earthquake, but not for measuring temperature. Amazon was incredible about their return of this device--so many easy options! The replacement device has a working reset knob, and the min max pointers are a lot less sensitive, but they still move with vibrations such as putting a jar on the shelf next to the thermometer. I suspect that I'll have to return this one, too, and try a different product. My "accuracy" rating is the balance between the black temperature pointer (high) and the min/max (low); my "easy to read" rating is the balance between Celsius (high) and Fahrenheit (low).

Cheap, in a good way and bad way.
Not many thermometers like this. Love the min/max feature. Didn't notice the big numbers were metric, my bad. When I received it, my min arm was stuck, I was able to correct that, My max arm is loose, can't fix. No biggie, I can work around it. Nice product for the price. I am ok with the failures due to its price. I would Buy again. It's cheap, in all ways of the word.

Good idea, but mediocre success
I was looking for a min/max non-digital thermometer that is not the style most are (bars of mercury in a U-shape that reset with the press of button). The common problem with the U-shaped thermometers is that the mercury often doesn't maintain a solid column, but instead splits apart into many small pieces that no longer reset. This H-B Durac Bi-Metallic thermometer is totally different, but I've found that it sometimes does not push the low and high properly. I've also found that the knob that twists the blue and red needles sometimes loses connection with the needles and doesn't actually move them. I would not buy this model again.

Works OK
I bought this to monitor the temps in a refrigerator while I am away for weeks at a time. It is, indeed OK, but that's it. I found it a little annoying to set, compared to my room-sized max-min thermometer, and compared to my digital. That said, it did in fact mark the min and max temps pretty well. Not bad for the price.

Love it! A low tech solution to a standalone freezer that I want to monitor high/low temps.
This thermometer works great. I used my existing fridge/freezer digital thermometer to compare the temps and it's dead on. There are a couple of things to be careful of. Don't force the arms too much when moving the high/low arms into position, as you could move the main arm with them and break the thermometer. Also, because Celsius is on the top the curve and Fahrenheit is on the under side of the curve, it's a little hard to see the Fahrenheit numbers when all three arms are in the same area. I wonder if some of the people, who said the temp was wildly off, were actually looking at the Celsius measurement and not the Fahrenheit? Final thing to be careful of... when you reset, put the dial pusher tab back at the bottom, so it doesn't block the movement of the arms thru the temperature curve. I am very happy.
