If your door didn't come with a lock, you might need new holes

My door came with an almost identical-looking handle on the outside, but no keyhole. No matter what I tried, I could not get the holes on the new handle to line up in a way that allowed the keyhole to work. I then realized that my interior handle was "offset" with the 2 holes going on the outsides of the mortise latch. I took out the mortise latch and noticed a nice little cutout for a screw, so I drilled 2 new holes and voila, it all matched up! I'm docking a star for 2 reasons: the stem of the cylinder was too wide to fit into the hole in the mortise latch so I had to Dremel it down, and even once I got everything lined up nicely, it was pretty much impossible to get it to turn smoothly. So it "works" but takes a great deal of force to turn the key. I might have gotten the new holes slightly wrong so I will keep trying. So if you're having trouble getting the holes to line up -- try taking out the mortise latch and assembling the whole thing outside your door. You'll most likely find that it all fits but your door needs new holes.

Great for add-on for a sliding door!!!

I purchased this and when it arrived I was very excited to get it installed as soon as possible!!! Now just to make sure everyone is clear... THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE UNIT. This is just the outside piece of the mechanism. That said, getting it to fit perfectly with the piece on the other side of your door can be tricky, but worth it. All in All I think it probably took me about 30-40 minutes to get it on. The biggest issue I had was that the pin that goes through the mechanism to move the lock up and down (locked and unlocked), is kind of designed with the idea that it should fit with the other piece on the inside. My current door switch did not allow for that... However, eventually I managed to break off just enough of the new pin so that this could fit inside of side of the mechanism while the inside piece could still fit from the inside, thus allowing both sides of the lock (inside and outside) to still be able to control the locking mechanism. I suspect that my method of getting this to work will one day wear out... but for the time being I am loving being able to use my sliding glass door as my main entrance to my apartment!!!! If looking for a more long lasting and elegant solution, you probably should just by an entire sliding glass door lock system, but for my purposes this is working great.

Good but wrong product

After measuring my sliding door and double checking this one showed it would work, turns out after I dismantled my old handle this one wouldn’t fit due to the latching mechanism being odd sized.

It works sort of

It works after several attempts everything is lined up. Pretty stiff but that’s to be expected. It was exactly what I was looking for. But… The key is darn hard to extract, I wouldn’t want to have to use it daily. Probably a locksmith wouldn’t need instructions. I must have missed mine, the picture on back of carton helped a little.

does not fit modern milgard doors

this is a nice piece of gear — solid, etc... however, it does not fit modern milgard doors: the lock cylinder is longer than the handle is deep... and the receiving hole in the milgard door is smaller than the cylinder. granted, if you /really/ wanted to make it work, you could drill out your $1200 door to fit your new $25 handle, but i figured that was not worth it. however, the non-locking one fits just fine — the holes align, etc ... it's just the lock cylinder than gets in the way.

KIMRO mobile home 1" patio door replacement handle

Perfect fit replacement handle for plastic KIMRO mobile home series (1"" thick) sliding glass door. Chose to retain my existing lock tumbler. Needed to use my original mounting screws, as the included ones were too long. Very quick and easy swap.

didn't fit

It would not line up with my existing inside pull, different hole spacing for the mounting screws, best to buy both pieces instead of just the outside.

Someone said the screw holes didnt line up for them, thought I would play the odd. they don;t line up for me either . found out only after attempting to install.
