Use as temporary labels and seals

We use this as temporary labels on household items. They are easy to apply, remove and write on. Can be removed without any residue. We also use this tape to hang notes, kid's drawings etc on the wall. They can be removed without any paint peeling or residue.

Diode Laser on Glass - Read Me

Rating how I used it: 0* I bought this tape to use on drinking glasses with my diode laser (SculpFun S6 Pro). I've done a lot of drinking glass etching, either cheap black acrylic paint sprayed on with an airbrush (a pain to apply, easy to remove) or standard flat black Rust-Oleum spray paint (easy to apply, a pain to remove). I was hoping tape would be almost as easy to apply as the spray paint and almost as east to remove as the acrylic - and it was - but even slowing down the laser and bumping up the power, all it did was burn off the tape, it did not affect the glass. My current theory is it's related to the light colour of the tape, that a darker tape would get hotter & the glass would be etched, I'll update this review if I later confirm this to me the case. My standard settings for (black) painted glass are 12 lines/mm, 300mm/min at 65% power. When these settings did nothing (to the glass - it looked like it did until I cleaned it), I tried 250mm/min at 100% power with and without air assist, no change. Upside is I didn't waste any glassware, haha, downside is I spent $10 on tape I can't use (for this purpose - I won't return it because 3M never claimed it could do this). I will see if I can colour the tape once applied with a fat (black) marker or dye; in case someone finds this review by searching 'laser' I'll mention I don't like to apply the acrylic paint by hand because the strokes were visible in the etch - this may be desirable sometimes, but generally it is not (at least for the stuff I have been etching). If adding colour makes the difference, I'll likewise update this review. 3550+ reviews when I bought it, but only two referred to using it in an off-label manner with laser engraving. I'm giving 5 stars because I believe this tape would be excellent for its intended purpose, but the written review is specific to how I was using it. I hope someone else with the same idea finds this review before trying it themselves, good luck!

The Seal

Is it supposed to have the brand tag/ seal. And it looks already used. It was delivered on time but where the seal at.

did not work out for my needs

I gave this item 5 stars because I did not use this for its intended purpose. I make jewelry from printed transparency film. I then cut out the piece and apply resin. Regular masking tape left too much residue on the item. I needed something to hold the piece as I resin, but wanted something that peels away clean. This holds the piece for me, but even though it says delicate surface when I peel up the piece after curing, it still has sticking residue on the back. I can not get off the sticky stuff without damaging the print. So I took off only one star for easy to remove. I am sure if you buy this for the purpose it was intended it will be fine.

Great for Woodworking. Kinda stretchy and see-through. Pulls off without tearing cedar fibers.

I've gotten addicted to this purple tape. I find it to be kinda stretchy so when I glue two pieces of Clear Cedar together I can tape hard to one piece and then set the second piece in place and then pull on the purple tape as I smooth it onto the second piece and that stretch loading of the tape creates a force that doesn't just hold the two pieces together but it draws them tight as my Titebond 3703 Dark Wood Glue dries. I love this feature for gluing wood together. I love that I can mark my wood with a pencil and then put purple tape over my pencil line and STILL SEE MY PENCIL LINE THROUGH THE PURPLE TAPE. I can then cut my line with a circular saw and the cut won't splinter or feather the wood. When I pull the purple tape away the tape doesn't pull feathers from the soft cedar if you pull, not up away from the wood, but towards the new cut edge pull in the direction of the grain keeping the pull as flat to the wood as you can and pull the tape back over itself. Great for bundling parts to transport.

Not as delicate as I had hoped

To be fair, I intended to use this tape to protect leather against smoke staining when being cut with a laser, not for paint masking. On two leather samples the tape did a good job and came off relatively easily; but on the third there was extensive damage to the finish. I also tried the competitor’s yellow delicate surfaces tape and it did a much better job of releasing easily. I can’t recommend this product, but I was using it off-label so to speak.

Pricey but worth it.

Love this product! I needed a tape I could use to tape off fresh paint on a piece of furniture. It works great! None of paint peeled when I removed it. It also sticks very well with no bleeding on edges. Will buy again. Flawless lines.

Very useful tape for delicate surfaces - in my case guitar repair

I used this tape on several guitar repairs\modifications\upgrades. Just sticky enough to stay in place, easily removed and left virtually no residue. I used this both on the necks of several guitars to protect them while I filed down fret ends and guitar tops during pickup swaps, bridge adjustments\removal and full electronic upgrades. Great stuff.

Laser cutting Leather

Used this as a mask to laser cut leather. Normal tapes had a bad habit of ripping the surface finish off finished leather, and this seem to remedy that problem for us. Not sure about how well it works for the purpose it is intended however.

It helps a lot! Paper not ripped and walls intact!! Great for "nervous" wall lovers..... ???? depending on weight: it will fall down... But I figure then it's time to take some photos and start arting again!!

Very strong adhesive

If you’re planing to use it don’t leave it until it dries up otherwise, you will have the paint your protecting coming off on tape. Other than that, it did the intended purpose.

Not good for use in card making

I was going to use this tape for card making because it said in the description that it was for a delicate surface. I am disappointed in this tape, because it leaves a sticky residue on the card stock and it is very hard to remove. I realize that it is Painter's tape but I think it would remove the paint underneath it, because it is so sticky.

You Gotta Try This...Its The Best

I've tried using other brands, other colours. but nothing has given me the hassle free removal like this NEW tape from Scotch. If you don't want to take the chance of peeling off the paint that you're trying to protect, then try this product. More expensive than other tapes, but well worth the investment.
