OK for the price, but...

For the price, this peep hole is OK. The image is a little fuzzy, but you can tell who is on the other side of the door. Unfortunately, there's no way to focus the image, and the focus will change with different thicknesses of doors. I just have a regular house door, but it seems to be about a half inch too thick to get a clear focus. If my door was slightly thinner the image would be clearer. I took the attached picture with my iPhone, and the iPhone image is actually in better focus than the image I see when looking through the peep hole. I guess the auto-focus on the iPhone is compensating for the slightly fuzzy image my eye sees. You can get an idea from the picture what the field of view is like. The iPhone couldn't compensate for the brightness of my yard, however. When I look through the peep hole the yard is not overexposed like that.

I thought I was all prepared to install this, having bought a 9/16" drill bit (spade bit in my case), given that that's what Schage said would work and that other reviewers seem to have been able to get away a 9/16 - after they had to go buy one especially for this product (add that to the cost). Imagine my surprise when the new 9/16 would only have worked to accept this unit with a sledge hammer. So I tried reaming the hole larger with that same bit, which got a bit ugly with a spade bit, but eventually I was able to then get the thing to go into the door. Then I took it back offf the door temporarily to offer a picture for others to judge whether a 5/8" bit might not make a lot more sense. I ordered on August 12 and didn't receiven it until September 4. Seems built well enough with metal and glass (?) parts though the view range is not quite all I had hoped for. Next time though I'd go for one with greater wide angle view and possibly with a larger external lense.

Quality viewer for a great price!

High quality door viewer. I looked around locally for a good door viewer and only found cheap plastic lensed viewers. This Schlage viewer looks great and provides GREAT visibility. Installs easily, the instructions are on the back of the package it comes in. But basically, drill a 9/16" hole through your door (take care, measure 3 times, drill a small pilot hole first then drill the big hole ½ way through the door from each side so you don't cause splintering.) Lastly add a bit of clear silicon to the back of the viewer lens, then screw it into place. Have a quarter in your pocket because you will need it to tighten it down.

Very easy to install.

This is a very nicr, easy to install peephole. It has a nice, wide angle view that lets me see my entire entry-way. Super easy to install with a 9/16 drill bit. I did tape the area and I drilled a pilot hole to get a nice clean hole. The fit was perfect. I got it done so fast, I was surprised. It looks very nice.

Great Security Product for a Door with no Window

Easy to install in a wood door, and it has a very clear and excellent field of view. I used a pilot hole and then used a good (new so it was very sharp) speed bit and the installation was flawless. It would be very hard for someone to be outside the door and not be fully visible.

Basic functional model.

Simple to install... if you have a 9/16" drill bit - and a drill chuck big enough to hold it. Also, I recommend you drill very level and straight. My viewer is centered on the outside of the door, but slightly off on the inside. :)

Get the right size and type bit if this isn't a replacement.

Quick and easy to install with the right diameter and type bit. I purchased a special carbide hole cutter for my metal clad door and it worked like a champ. Read and follow the instructions. Simple.

Ok, but not the best

If your door is not protected from the elements (sun and rain) these will fog up, and won't be clear after just a short time. If your door is protected they work great and stay perfectly clear with a decent field of view.

Good product, really easy install, does a great job

Despite a number of severe negative reviews I found this to be a good product. From when I brought drill upstairs it only took about 2 mins to have it installed. I live in one of the coldest cities in Canada and weather hasn’t had the slightest Effect on the viewer. It provides me with a great wide view of my front yard I’ve noticed that a large number of the lowest ratings have a feeling and a word flow of a professional marketer. I think many of those bad ratings are submitted by companies hired by competitors to discredit the product
