Good Replacement for Broken Shelf Peg

One of the existing pegs on one of my book shelves broke off. This is a great replacement - I just popped it in the existing hole, put the shelf back in place, and was ready to restock the shelf with some books.

Cautious use with glass shelves

The shelf pins work but not as secure as my older shelf pins. I searched for but could not locate an exact replacement pin. As seen in the photo comparing an existing pin (top) to the recently purchased pin (lower), the new pin lacks the upper stabilizing back and lacks a wider platform to hold the glass shelf secure. I would not want to use all new pins on thick glass shelves. These pins will not hold it securely and keep it from shifting. If you are securing thin glass shelves or smaller wooden shelves this pin would likely work fine.

Sturdiness and fit

These 3mm brackets are hard to find. They fit my new Kohler medicine cabinet perfectly. Kohler does not stock them!

I shopped my local hardware stores and not one of them carried the 3mm shelf pin I needed for my kitchen cabinet. I was so happy and relieved to find them on Amazon. They fit perfectly.

A simple product....with problems.

Finding and choosing a basic product like this should be easy, but please be careful. Some basic problems make this task a bit more complicated and support products hard to find and use. First, the dimensions of the support peg vary in each package and not all will fit shelf peg holes. Second, the dimensions of the holes themselves vary and do not fit the same peg. Third, the metal component of the peg does not support heavier shelves (e.g. dishes) and may either break off, or deform the shelf peg hole. This product would be useful for only very limited width shelves with minimum weight loading. Fortunately for me Amazon granted me a refund for the pegs, but not for the damaged shelves or peg boards. My best suggestion is to visit your local hardware store for this product; get a couple of samples, take them home and try them out. That way you can be sure of the fit from the beginning. Another advantage would be getting the product. The Amazon order was fulfilled after a moderate delay--they do let you know, but its still a delay if you are trying to replace a shelf.

Would be good to clearly advertise and state that this package only holds 8 pegs. Nowhere is this clear.
