Very Useful

This is very difficult to find in the Big Stores. Most never heard of such a thing (or a need for one). I previously had a Single Inlet version for my water softener. Adding a whole house sand filter and a Rust Filter to my water system necessitated access for two more Air-Gapped Drain Pipes. This fit with my existing setup. The product is very adaptable and durably made. Seams like it should cost less, but there are not many alternatives out there.

Works great

I use two of these side-by side, in a 1.5 inch PVC standpipe. There are no instructions provided, as it seems visually obvious how it is used, but I have read other reviews that complained of leaks, water spraying out the side, or the whole think rocketing up the first time it was used. To prevent those issues, I recommend the following: 1. Wrap the pipe to be inserted with some electrical tape, if it doesn't fit tightly on it's own. This will insure that your pipe drains straight down, as well as seal from leaks out the top end. 2. After inserting your pipe, secure it to the Plumb Pak with a number of turns of electrical tape (in my case, I wrapped enough to cover the entire vertical pipe segment from the Plumb Pak and continuing up about 1 inch along the inserted pipe. This will keep your pipe from popping out of the Plumb Pak. 3. Drill and tap a #6 hole through your standpipe and into the "Plumb Pak", and secure with a nylon or or stainless-steel #6 screw. Stainless steel would also work, but don't use other types or they will rust. This will prevent the whole thing from rocketing out of the standpipe. We have been using ours for four months so far. In use, water entering from the top forms a perfect stream that is visible through the opening, but goes straight down - no splatters.

Not the cheapest, but the easiest solution to plumbing your own Water Softener

Blocks flow of water resulting in a mess

Initially it seems like a good design for an air gap. During the first use the water flow was obstructed by the ridge inside the fitting resulting in a backflow of water and a huge mess.

It works for my water softener but you may have to do some modifications.

After some modifications on the item and also on the place where I was installing it. It did the job. If you are installing it by the drain where you have your washer and dryer, I believe you will have to make some modifications. This was used to as a drain for my water softener when it regenerates. Good luck.

Very easy way to meet plumbing code

Very easy way to meet plumbing code. The original installer left our water softener drain with a setup that wasn't up to code. I used this air gap to reconfigure the plumbing and meet code. I placed the air gap in a 1 1/2" drain pipe and connected a 1/2" CPVC pipe to the top. I used CPVC adhesive to glue the connection and ran the water softener. Not a drop came out, even when the flow was at it's highest rate.

fixed my water softener discharge

The air gap where my water softener discharges into the sewer didn't have anything like this - it was just a 1/2" pvc elbow hanging over a 2" open trap. Large amounts of briney discharge would miss the trap every regen, which killed some plants and caused other problems. This thing crammed directly in place and has largely fixed the problem.

3x water filter drains

We got 3 of these for our water filters, all that have a regen cycle every few days (greensand, sediment, and water softener, and yes our well water is that bad - even after those filters, the water goes through a 6 stage RO for drinking and cooking), We have a drain pipe in the floor of our new house and these fit on the edge of it. There was some splashing at first, we had to shift things around to get the right angle, but no actual problems. Quality is good.

Fits in standpipe beside washing machine hose

I’m using this to route our water softener drain line into the washing machine drain stand-pipe. Works great - I used black tape to secure the drain hose to the air gap assembly. I also drilled a small hole through one of the ‘ribs’ on the air gap and another small hole in the top of the stand-pipe, then installed a zip tie to secure the Air Gap to the stand-pipe and make sure it doesn’t get dislodged or removed. The water flows smoothly through the air gap and out of the bottom of the Air Gap device ... no splashing or overflowing observed.
