super cute!

i've never had any sort of advent calender before, so this was actually pretty exciting to me! i did not let myself check out the photos, because i wanted to be surprised...which i mean, is the whole point right? it was hard to hold back and not open more than one calender door every night, but worth the wait. PF is a pretty decent quality make up brand, and i was happy to receive what i did. the one thing that was a bit of a bummer, was that there was no face powder included. you get the basics in this calender, and while it was nice to get two different kinds of bronzers...i personally would have preferred a face powder. or even a lip product. BUT regardless, this was a very cute little advent calender and is perfect to gift to someone...or keep for yourself :)

Allows for a natural look, but can go dramatic

The perforated portion of the box open nicely, but I don’t really imagine many people will actually open this set one at a time. I just opened the box and took the plastic tray out. As far as I can tell from looking up each item to be purchased separately, the bronzers and mascara are about a third the normal size and the eyeshadow, primer, and eyeliner are full sized. The color palette of the eyeshadow is very nice, although at my age I won’t use most of them. The colors are fine, but the shimmer accentuates my wrinkled eyelids. There are two matte colors in the palette that are nice options. As well, both can be used as eyebrow filler. I put primer on half my face before applying my own foundation (not included in this box). It definitely makes the foundation easier to blend. The primer itself is comfortable on the skin and seems moisturizing. The mascara is a more natural look than some. It doesn’t seem to add a lot of volume or length, nor does it make it look like I’ve got spider legs attached to my face. I generally prefer this natural look mascara to a more dramatic look for everyday, but this isn’t what I’d choose for an event where I might want to look a bit more made up (like a wedding or Christmas party, maybe). The liquid eyeliner has a nice tapered brush that allows for a thin to very thin line. It’s not really something I use often, so I’m not well practiced, but this was rather easy to use. I tried to get a picture of the bronzer on my cheek. I’m pretty fair, and it works well for me (I didn’t use a lot though). I do think this can work on a variety of skin tones, but it may begin to work a bit like a highlighter for some — especially the one with a bit of shimmer. The other is matte and I really just used it more as a blush. It just gives a bit of a sun kissed look, and that’s about right for me. My face is lighter than my arms. I took a picture of the two bronzers on my arm, and you can see that it’s really close in color to a slightly tanned, neutral undertoned fair person. If all of these were full sized purchased separately you could expect to pay close to $70. This is about half that, so it’s a good way to try out the butter line. I’m really happy with this, but given the shimmer in the shadow and one of the bronzers, I think this is better suited to someone a little younger than I am. I tried drawing on my hand with the eyeliner just to give an idea of the control and line width that the brush offers.

Decent value, hit or miss products

The products in this little set are very giftable and great for someone who is new to or interested in Physicians Formula. Just a quick mini review of each one: The primer was/is fantastic. It is a solid dupe for the Tatcha silk canvas, but absorbs better into the skin and doesn’t make my skin oily. Definitely one of my favorite products I’ve used. The bronzers are very lightweight and billable. Not too much kickback when you try to use them. The mascara is okay. The wand leaves a little to be desired, as it doesn’t really leave a lot of product, but it does last pretty well The eyeshadow palette is okay. I’ve had better experiences with cheaper ones out there. It lasted throughout the day without creasing or fading too much. It worked best with my urban decay priming potion. My least favorite product was the eyeliner. The brush tip wasn’t very precise and the cap was partially broken. All in all, if you’re curious about PF, I’d give the products a try.

Unique gift idea

This is such a unique concept as long as you can resist opening them all at once. I actually showed some restraint, and opened a compartment each day. This would make a great gift as well. The first compartment I opened contained my favorite product out of this set. I loved the putty primer. It works amazing. It goes on so smoothly, and does a wonderful job at hiding those dark circles under my eyes, and completely conceals them after adding my concealer. I noticed that my concealer went on so much easier, and I only needed to use a fraction of what I’d typically use. My next favorite was the liquid eyeliner. Easy application and a bold black which I love. The mascara was decent, and doesn’t clump up like many others, and has several soft bristle that help to fan out your lashes. The mascara isn’t very bold. Overall, I really enjoyed this product, and the Physicians Formula products inside. They are great quality, and a wonderful introduction to sample their products. I wish I would’ve saved this as a gift, but am also really happy I found products that I really love.

Great travel set!

I love that this is boxed as a 6-day advent calendar. It makes a perfect gift or a little something special for yourself. The set includes putty primer, mini matte bronzer, mini bronzer, mini mascara, eyeshadow palette, and liquid eyeliner, all from the Butter collection. All of the items are travel sized, so they're easy to stick in your bag and go. I think my favorite is the mascara. It smells like coconuts!! What's even better is that it doesn't clump and my eyelashes look long and lush. This is worth the price tag!

Hit or miss

I absolutely love the primer and mascara that came in this advent gift box, but the eyeliner was dried out and I wasn’t personally impressed with the bronzer or eyeshadow. That said, this would have made an awesome gift because I got to figure out which products I do want to buy. The gift box itself was also meh, standard to a department store gift set. Overall, I think this would be a great gift for someone who may not be super into makeup, but is interested in getting into it.
