Great light, good price, and unobstrusive
Though these are normally used in commercial businesses, I purchased two of these for use in my home, as storms have taken out power leaving my family scrambling for a flashlight in the dark. Installing these is quite simple, assuming you have power run to where you want to place them. In my case, my house was prewired for smoke alarms. I no longer use these, since they have been replaced with wireless ones tied to my alarm system. Instead, I wired up these lights in their place. The battery pack appears to be 3 AA sized Ni-MH batteries prewired into a pack and is plugged into the circuit board. I have not tested their run time, but 90 minutes seems reasonable from the somewhat small battery pack. There is ample space inside the unit, it is too bad there are not larger battery packs available. The light output is reasonable, and will allow for safely navigating my stairs during power outages. I have one unit covering the upstairs halls and stairwell, and another unit covering the front entrance and living room. In a full blackout, these will be very useful in keeping my family safe. Installation Steps: 1. Trip the breaker for the power at the mounting location. 2. Remove the back panel of this light by depressing the two tabs on the top of the unit and pulling. 3. Punch out the pre-scored holes for your specific mounting configuration.I punched out the top middle and bottom middle scores, which lined up directly with the mounting holes of a 1-gang wall box. 4. Punch out the 1" hole in the center for the wiring. 5. Mount the back panel on the wall, pulling the wiring through the center hole. 6. Use wire nuts to attach the pre-stripped cables on the light to the wall wiring. Ensure the extra unused wire is wrapped in electrical tape and secured. (This has both 120 and 277 VAC cables) 7. Plug in battery cable to the circuit board in the light. (It comes disconnected from the manufacturer) 8. Attach light to back plate by hooking the bottom of the light to the back plate, then rotating upward until the tabs lock into place. 9. Turn on power. 10. After 10 minutes of charging, press the test button located on the top of the device to make sure the lights work. Adjust angles of lights as needed.

Helped me pass my fire inspection.
This light helped me pass my fire inspection this year! So I love it for that. It's a really inexpensive option compared to big box stores and does the job just fine. I can't speak to the longevity or ease of replacement of its battery but installation was a breeze and it looks very good. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the light doesn't seem to be extremely bright which isn't a big deal since it's just to give enough light for you to find your way out of a dark room when the power goes out. It will probably work just fine for this but don't expect it to be as useful as a flashlight. Also it's a little smaller than I expected. I bought it to replace another emergency light that would not work with new batteries installed and this Morris Products light is certainly smaller than the oval shaped lights I currently have. I was hoping for a closer match and hoping not to have to touch up paint around it. Oh well, read the description a little more closely next time. Don't make the same mistake as me. Figure out the dimensions of the light you're replacing before ordering this. Overall the light works and passes inspection so I'm a happy customer and will order again next time a light goes out. I will update the review in the future if my opinion about the product changes.

Every home or business needs one
One or more of these lights are a must for your home or business. They are made to fit and wire into an electrical box. Morris is missing the boat by not selling a model of these lights with its own cord and wall mount so you can just mount it on any wall and plug it into an electrical outlet. You can buy a cord yourself and cut a notch on the edge or drill a small hole on the bottom for the cord to come through and connect the two wires inside. Put two screws on the wall to match some of the knock outs on the back cover plate of the light, plug it in and your set for the power outage. The lights have very broad movement up, down, sideways, Etc. to shine almost anywhere you want it to shine. Wow! is it bright. The rechargeable batteries should keep the light on for several hours. Old incandescent bulb lights needed a 5 times larger battery just to last 45 minutes. LED is here to stay. The only other item I would add to this light would be a switch to turn it off if I did not want it on during the day when the power goes off. That way when it started getting dark and the power was still off I could turn on these lights when I needed them. They would make good portable lights. But without an on/off switch, they come on when you unplug it from the power source. Just like when the power goes off.

Decent unit for the price
Got this to replace old emergency light with leaking battery and burned-out incandescent bulbs. This new emergency light arrived quickly, was packaged well, included all necessary accessories (couple of philips screws and plastic anchors for mounting the backplate to the wall plus about 3 twist-on wire connectors) and was pretty easy to install. Don't even need to read any instructions, all you need is to remove the backplate and take a look at the interior to see 3 clearly labeled (one neutral, one 120v and one 277v) wires (with pre-stripped ends) and a battery connector which is unplugged from the PCB and which you need to plug back in before connecting the wires. Everything else is pretty much a "common sense", especially if you have already installed something similar in the past. One minor drawback of the whole thing is somewhat high price - I don't really see the reason why it can't be lower, especially considering its somewhat "proprietary" NiCd battery pack and considering that there are some cheaper options available from other manufacturers.

Nothing fancy, but it does the job
The only "problem" I had was when I installed it, it didn't work. It was an easy fix, one of the electrical connectors ("jst") had come loose. I snapped it back into place, and it worked perfectly. I may have caused the problem, or maybe it came loose in transport. Otherwise, it does exactly what you expect it to do.

It was cheaper to purchase this new unit than replace the old Lead-Acid battery in my current emergency light. I was able to easily disable one light for my application as this was installed at the end of a hallway.

The first one received was defective - but when I communicated the problem to Amazon they easily and promptly sent me a replacement which I installed about a week ago. So far it seems to be working well - ie as expected
