Beautiful Strong Grab bar

I only gave a rating of three stars to the ease of installation because I had to mount this grab bar onto a tile shower wall. Drilling into tile is NOT easy. You need special drill bits and you need to take your time so that you don’t crack the tile. However, the grab bar is beautiful, strong and looks fantastic once installed. Now my wife has two grab bars in her shower so that she won’t fall while getting into or out of the shower. I would definitely recommend this product.

Why did I wait?

This is a sturdy, good looking product. As my location did not have wall studs where I wanted to place the safety bar, I used the optional Moen installation hardware. This made the job easy, and I am very pleased with the result. My only regret is that I waited several years to install the safety bar, because I felt that I did not need one yet. The piece of mind from having it is well worth the modest cost!

Save a fall

Great product but Direction don’t address homes with fir strips agains block wall. We have a block home so there are no external 2” x 4” studs only fir strips on outside wall. To install it’s best to get concrete screws like Tapcon etc. I used a 1/4” tile bit for shower tile then switched over to 5/32” masonry drill. Used hammer drill for block only after drilling through tile w/o hammer setting on. Job came out great using 6 cement screws 3/16” X 3 3/4” long. Important, make sure there is no wiring or plumbing hidden where you are drilling!

Great Product For My 97 Year Old Mother

I bought this Moen 24 inch grab bar for my 97 year old mother who needs a little help standing up do to a bad knee. Mounted this grab bar across from the toilet on the opposite wall so she can hold onto it when standing up from toilet. As for this Moen being easy to install, I have to say that it depends on what surface your installing it to. My mother's house is a cement block home, so having installed several of these Moen's in the past on the bathtub/shower wall, I use a masonry drill bit, just a bit smaller than the screw, to drill through the sheetrock and insulation back to the concrete blocks. I then secure the Moen grab bar with Tapcon screws long enough to bite about 1 inch into the concrete blocks. This gives me peace of mind knowing that it will not pull out and fail. I weight 238 lbs and use my weight to try these Moen's out before I'm satisfied they are safe for my mother who weights about 130 lbs. Amazon's price was about $10 cheaper than the two big home supply stores near me, and Amazon had white in stock with overnight prime delivery, which the other stores were out of.

Works

Good bar for a white shower, say. Keep in mind this is 24” and typical beams are 16” apart so you may have to choose one end of this bar as a sturdier attachment to a stud, and the other end slightly less sturdy attachment to the drywall. Or tile. I put this in a shower, when I built the shower, specially placing wooden supports for it 24” apart — figuring I will need it in 20 years when I am old and infirm, but hey, I find myself using it now and glad it’s there! After 6 years of use, it is not at all scratched or old looking. I bought a second one to use in another location.

Solid Grab Bar

This Moen grab bar came with the necessary screws to install it. I installed it vertically to a stud in the wall, and it is very solid. The peaned finish is slip resistant, even with soapy hands. But it may be a little more difficult to keep clean than the brushed finish. Overall it was a very good value for the price.

Nice Heavy, Sturdy Bar

Added this bar and its 12" companion to the guest bathroom tub/shower when we needed to use that facility for a couple of weeks. While I did not install it myself, the contractor (doing other work in the house) who did it used my impact driver to do so. He used his tile bit but they are readily available at the "big box" stores. So, could have done it myself but got lazy. Pretty straightforward installation. Find the studs (hardest part), pilot the holes through cultured marble and sheet rock, and drive the screws (nice and long and heavy duty) in. I will say when I was trying to decide what what length to get for 16" OC studs, I said a few things under my breath about there not being (that I found in this styles) a 16" bar for level installation. However, installed at an angle (low end at the back of the tub and high end at the faucet/shower head end) spanning 2 studs. It has worked out very well for a couple of oldies to feel more secure (the "peened" rough surface helps with that) getting in & out & standing there showering.

Easy to install & very sturdy with the knurled finish.

The areas where you need to install the 3 wood screws, had sufficient holes to fit on the 1 1/2 inch wood stud.

Attractive, sturdy, easy to grip.

This was installed because of a relative staying with us after knee replacement surgery. Works perfectly. Not easy to install, as we have porcelain tile that's very difficult to drill through.
