Replace outdated Symmons Model A / B

I had both a Symmons Model A (with tub diverter) and Symmons Model B (shower with flow control to use less water) and this new model is a great update. Just undo a few screws and replace. Very easy. Great way to modernize the look. Great quality too, not just plastic. Attached before pic from Symmons A (I'm going to buy a second one for this bathroom with the tub) and the after pic for Symmons B (replaced my shower with flow control)

Excellent update for your older Symmons temptrol trim kit.

After reading another review with pictures, I picked this kit up as part of my bathroom update project. Very easy to install. Has a backplate that helps seal the hole where the mixing valve is very nicely. My old temptrol had a philips head screw in the handle. This unit's handle uses a set screw to secure it to the end of the valve very nicely.

Looks and feels very high end. Solid. modern. Beautiful shiny chrome finish. Love it. You won’t be disappointed!

Matte finish is thin.

The finish is very very thin, just putting the water volume control knob onto the cover plate scratched the finish off. When tightening the handle’s set screw be careful not to rub the hex wrench against the finish as it’ll scuff it right off as well, otherwise it’s fine. Probably wouldn’t buy again.

Volume Control Feature

BE WARNED. The annotation on this product is misleading. There are two levers. I thought I was buying a product where the outer large lever would be used to set the temperature, and the inner small lever would set the flow rate from OFF to FULL ON. That is what I was looking for and only found out after we installed the valve it does not behave that way. There is no information in the instructions describing how it does work, which would have otherwise warned me to not have it installed. The lower leaver, if pushed towards the marking 'OFF' increases the flow rate. If pushed towards the marking 'ON' it decreases the flow rate. (Yep - that doesn't make sense", and the lever has no position where water flow is stopped). The annotation on the fascia has nothing to do with this lever. In fact, this lever has no annotation whatsoever. The 'ON' and 'OFF' annotation relate to the larger, outer handle, along with the Hot and Cold marking on the upper half. Turn the larger outer handle through COLD fully clockwise to stop the water flow. The product appears well made, all quality metal except for the collar behind the main handle. That is plastic for some reason?

Turns a dated shower control valve into something great looking, modern and much easier to use

This turns an ugly, dated shower control valve into something great looking, modern and much easier to use. It's very simple to install on an existing Temptrol shower valve - you just need a phillip's screwdriver. Make sure you mount the smaller control arm behind the front plate before snapping plate into place. Update: Some photos. Also - as some have discovered, installing the smaller control handle can be tricky. You need to set it in the small cutout in the larger piece as you clip the larger piece to the plastic holder - in one motion. It does work (just made my head hurt a little...).

Easy and attractive upgrade to an old Symmons setup

Easy and attractive upgrade to an old Symmons setup. HOWEVER BE WARNED the balance of the handle is suspect if your water pressure is low. The weighted side of the main handle can drop down slowly if water flow is low, and this of course changes the temperature. My fix was to epoxy a chrome cabinet knob onto the end of the short side of the handle as a counterweight. A few drops of 2 part JB-Weld epoxy worked surprisingly well, with the new counterweight knob held steady by masking tape until it cured. Looks great though time will tell on how corrosion resistant the Chrome plated knob turns out to be.
