First I wish to correct information in a previous review by Small town IN (and others). The pictures showing the handle installation are with the handle NOT installed correctly. Small town IN (and others) did not follow the instructions. The prongs are inserted in to the holes first then the handle is rotated back till it snaps on the OUTSIDE of the loop they put the handle inside the loop DO NOT DO THAT!. If done the way it says in the manual it will not come loose or fall out. To be fair the manual should have an illustration on this. Second my lid does not have any sharp edges and fits properly. Third the manual most specifically DOES tell you that the plug has to be installed a certain way to work. OK on to how it works. The unit takes about 15 minutes to warm up to max temperature. I have a thermopen instant digital thermometer (which comes with a calibration certificate). Per the thermopen the unit when set to maximum (375° F) only reads about 349° with the reading taken at the center of the pan about 1 inch under the surface of the oil (ready light on). A bit of a disappointment. The timer has a maximum of 30 minutes and I really can't think of a use for it since I have kitchen timers but that's fine. You can turn the unit to on without setting the timer. There are 2 marks in the pan for the oil a low and a high mark. there is almost 4 inches above the high mark to the top of the pan so over flow is not very likely unless you put lots of ice crystals or water in the hot oil. The basket rests confidently on the edge of the fryer when parked there. The "odor filter" in the unit is probably pointless since steam will escape from the cutouts for the basket and heating elements. I did not buy this for the "odor filter" but because the place where the filter is makes a good steam vent. I will likely remove the filter and discard it. The glass becomes covered the moment you start frying but I did not buy this expecting it to remain clear nor do I care that it has a window. I bought it because it has a metal lid which will last longer and is easier to clean. The unit does an excellent job of frying, it does require pauses between batches for the oil to come back up to temp but I fully expected that. I was able to make a batch of french fries from 2 large russets with no problem and could probably up that to 3. Heating was even. I made fried zucchini, onion rings and wings with it, all turned out just fine. This unit replaced a fryer from the 1960's which worked perfectly but was a pain to clean. This thing is well designed to be cleaned easily and completely (the main reason I bought it) just don't put the control box in water. Just out of curiosity I went to a restaurant supply and the smallest unit they had was twice the width of this one, and cost $300.

Does it’s job
Great way to get some fried food. Make sure you’re changing the oil and cleaning it though as if you don’t clean it or change the oil it could get a little harder to make sure all the oil is gone. Easy to use and it is definitely giftable. Would not use this size for a party or big event though.

Bought this one after i gave my son my other one. We both love it. Super easy to clean (please let the oil cool,before attempting to move it). Makes the best chicken wings.

Works great
This is near perfect so I'll only go over the flaws: Temperature probe wires are exposed and thin. As the heating/control assembly are going to be lightly hand-washed, the probe wires are going to be the primary feature to kill this device. The base is a little flimsy. Once the pan is in place, everything is fine but I think the base is going to secondary part to break. The edges are sharp. One of the main factors that attracted me to this was that the pan was removable making oil removal and cleaning easy but the lip on the pan make handling it hazardous. Max temp is 375. I'm not sure if this is a function of the 15A rating or not and it has been fine for everything I've tried so far but I think it might be a little too low for some tempura recipes.

Heating element not sufficient.
I find the unit struggles to maintain the highest setting when cooking. The thin metal lid gets very hot and you have to be careful when removing it.
