Slow cooker
I've used this cooker almost every day for a couple of weeks. It cooks perfectly every time. I use the insert on the stovetop for searing and also to get a head start when I've started too late for the full slow cooker cook time. It's also a nice looking appliance. The price was good. I'd buy it again.

excellent
my first crock ordered from this company arrived with a chip on the rim. It was sent back, and replaced with the exact same crock. Free shipping - free exchange. Excellent condition! Looking forward to seasoning the inner crock, and start using it.

Not your standard insert, but it gets the job done
This replaced a wedding gift crockpot that died after continuous use for 14 years! I like it, but not as crazy about it as Bertha, my big old one. The insert is a nice porous stoneware. It's pretty though I have had some scratches even with plastic utensils. The instructions say not to put frozen foods in, which is a bummer since I'm ultra lazy and used to just toss frozen chicken breasts or frozen veggies in my old one. This one gets warm, but not as hot as my other one, even on the hot setting. The knob feels a bit cheap, though the lid is really sturdy glass. I'll keep it, but once it dies, I'll be going back to a regular coated stoneware insert. It was easier to clean.

I like it. Alot.
the heating element on our Crock-Pot brand slow cooker became erratic after the first year and took either way too quickly or way too slow. Either way it was really pretty bad. I looked around for other crock pots and noticed that a lot of reviewers were talking about Lead content in the ceramic. so before I wasn't going to buy a new slow slow cooker I wanted to make sure it was it least relatively safe. I researched about 6 or 7 websites and came up with the conclusion that unless I tested it myself I probably wasn't going to know for sure if it was entirely safe or if in fact this entire concerned about Lead was way overdone in the first place. While I was still researching I noticed this particular brand which I had never heard of before. they advertise no LEAD in the product. Well that was a check mark for me because I could stop worrying at least about one factor. but what about all the other factors? Again my heating element went Bonkers after about a year. But with only a few reviews on this unit I could not tell much about this unit. So I can't have a clue if this element will hold up or not. I do know that I really like the look of this unit on my dark brown granite countertop. It just looks cool without looking too cool. But all that doesn't matter unless it works right. So today for the first time I fired it up. I started making a stew around 10 a.m. and filled it half way and it was completely finished about quarter after 2 p.m. Just over 4 hours seem very reasonable to me. Now I must admit what I make a stew I just kind of throw things together and so never really repeat the same recipe twice and I have no idea if this was just dumb luck or not, but...the stew I made today blended better -by far - then any stew I can remember in the last four or five years! The Taste was absolutely superb. I can't really believe that this unit made me a better chef, though I will still hope it might have. I believe somebody made a comment about it being relatively easy to clean and I certainly discounted that comment pretty much entirely. Well, I have to tell you that I was pretty well shocked how easy this is to clean. I had left tomato, onion and potato stains on the unit for about an hour after it cooled down. In my old crock pot this would have meant hours of misery. So I read the instruction book and used only soap and warm water and a nice little sponge and started to rub it down. I have to say I was kind of flabbergasted that it just came off. I ran over to show a family member because I couldn't believe it and neither could she. in 40 seconds it went from total mess with baked on Grom to looking like it did when it was shipped. I like the fact that there is not the paint on the stoneware but that is it is natural. I don't know if that's the reason it was easier to clean because the painted product technically should have be easier to clean. But in fact I found the results actually the opposite and I must say that so far this is the best feature, if you can call it a feature at all. Since time and energy matter to me, I'm quite pleased. I believe someone mentioned the unit was wobbly because it only stood on three legs. This is true and I thought it would be a major problem. But it doesn't seem to be an issue, especially when there is food inside of it. Still something to be cautious about for the future but it didn't really seem to play today at all, which is good. So here I give this. Appearance 9 Cooking time 9 Ease of cleaning 10 Taste of recipes 10

A few design flaws but cooks very well
Overall, I am very pleased with the Chefman Slow Cooker. I tried it out with the most basic recipe; roasting a whole chicken. The crock heated evenly and cooked my meal without any input from me. There are a few things you should know, however. First, I would highly recommend reading the handy-dandy instruction book that comes with it, highlighting stuff if necessary. Unglazed stoneware is not like other cooking surfaces, and if you’re not familiar with it, this book will clue you. You’re warned not to subject it to abrupt temperature changes, like heating it on the stovetop or in the cooker, then tossing food in it directly from the refrigerator or freezer. Or putting it directly into the refrigerator shortly after cooking. (I did that all the time with my old cheapo one, setting it on a trivet.) There are also warnings all over the place, on the metal exterior and on the glass lid, that this thing is going to get hot. This fact is also mentioned several times in the book. Once it is in place, only lift it by the handles until it cools. Also, the lid shouldn’t go in the oven even though the crock can, probably because the little knob on top is just plastic. The first drawback is there is no light on it to let you know if the element is on (and therefore getting hot). I had it plugged in and kept checking it, and finally realized the wall outlet wasn’t working. I moved it to a different outlet and eventually felt the heat rising by holding my palm close to the exterior. To the designers: a light would be really really nice! The meat cooked evenly and, in the end, was tender and flavorful, which is what I was looking for. I was really pleased. Another drawback is there are only three feet on the bottom, which makes it slightly unstable. This is not a huge problem as, once it is plugged in and cooking, you’ll rarely have to move it. But still, stability would be a non-issue if there were four feet underneath. The last drawback is there is no timer and therefore no way for it switch automatically to the warm setting. When the food is finished cooking, you really need to be home to take care of it. It’s not going to wait for you. The addition of such a feature might keep it from being so nicely affordable, but it would probably be worth a few extra dollars. It washed up well enough, with only slight staining. I think stoneware is supposed to be somewhat porous, so I expect more staining as I use it (especially with a tomato based sauce), and I don’t mind if my cookware looks like someone in the house knows how to cook. I’m giving it 4 stars, because although it has a couple of design flaws, none of them actually affects its ability to do its job, which is to cook food well.

Awesome all natural slow cooker
This slow cooker works awesome. Love the fact that the cookware is all natural & overtime will not emit nasty chemicals like other slow cookers made of metal. Price was also great

Bare bones but good enough
I've been using my 5qt. slow cooker for about 5 to 6 months, without any trouble. However, there are some things to be aware of. It's pretty bare bones. There's no light to indicate that it's on, which for me, is significant because I have two little grandchildren who are tall enough to reach up to the counter and could get burned from the hot exterior. There's no timer. That's not the end of the world for me but I would have paid more for a timer so that I can leave the house for the day, leaving the food to cook on it's own. There's no gasket around the rim of the lid, which would have been a deal-breaker for me if I'd remembered to check before making my purchase. A gasket would have been so much better and I believe would have sped the cooking time along a little. So far I have only used my slow cooker for cooking beans, which I do approximately once a week. The liner is badly stained but I don't have a problem with that. I don't see how it could be helped. But it's something to keep in mind for someone who is particular about that. One thing I'm really displeased about is that I paid $39.99 for my 5qt. I just checked and six months later it's now available for half that -- $19.99. I'm somewhat considering purchasing the 7qt. (at the time of this writing it's $29.99) because when I want to cook a large volume of beans for freezing I find that the 5qt. just isn't large enough but I'm not sure as the short-comings tend to out-weigh the positives.

Great little cooker at a reasonable price
Have only used this once so far, but we had a lovely stew. I like the fact you can saute the meat on the top of the stove and then use it to slow cook. I did however send a question which I have not received the answer to. I like to keep my recipes and you have a recipe section. How can I save my own recipes there. I am a Celiac therefore always trying to find ways to cook gluten free.

It's a Nice crock and best pot
This Chefman slow cooker has very quickly become a regularly used item in my kitchen. It is actually a very nice size for cooking for my family. It could easily cook a meal for a family of 6 or more very nice look, and looks very sleek and not cheap at all. The inside pot comes out and is very easy to soak, clean, and even put in the dishwasher. Even when on all day, I am not worried about leaving it running while I am not home as the outside doesn't get hot. Overall I really like this product and would recommend to family and friends.

Slow Cooker
Operative word is 'slow' - it takes a very long time to even reach a simmer on 'high'. I also would have liked an indicator light to show it is on. However the insert is wonderful and versatile, and the oval shape is good for cooking roasts.
