The best there is on the retail market
You'll need to go to a ultra high end and pay up big (e.g., Sn*p On) to meet or beat Channellock. This is my eighth Channellock product and I love it. And no, Cr*ftsman stuff isn't nearly as good as this.

Made in USA and definitely shows it
Solid pliers, beefy, big, and smooth. Use these to install and uninstall oil pumps off and on oil barrels. Effortless with this tool.

Works great
Very strong wrench jaws on this beast are 5.5 inches of raw power lol handles are a good length not to long and bulky really nice would be cool if it had better grips on handle though if you get oil on your hands look out and the lock is a little stiff for adjustments but holds that position well overall great wrench and price isent to bad for product.

Great quality large slip lock pliers
Not cheap but very well made. If you need this size just buy it. If you need convincing, these often save me from having to get out a large pipe wrench or a chain wrench and are generally easier to use and much lighter. Never had Channellock pliers fail in the slip joint and expect these to perform the same. Not made out of Chineseium alloy, so even at extreme clamping force nothing deflects. The choice to purchase these was affected by being an on road heavy equipment mechanic. Been turning wrenches for more than 21 years. YMMV.

This would be king, but there is a better choice
I bought thisChannellock 480 5-1/2-Inch Jaw Capacity 20-Inch Tongue and Groove Plier for $40 on March 2, 2015 (it's currently showing for $50.31 today May 31, 2015, a 25% increase in a mere 3 months, fwiw). This tool is "okay", but due to its weight and general unwieldiness it's much harder to use than smaller Channellocks. At the time I had also evaluated theIrwin Industrial Tools 2078120 20-Inch GrooveLock Pliers which were around $50, maybe $53 or so, if I recall correctly. (Today they are $44.59.) In retrospect I wish I had bought the Irwin 20-inch GrooveLocks instead of the 20-inch Channellock 480. Partly I wish I bought the Irwin because I ended up buying the Irwin anyway on May 10, 2015 after using the Channellock to pull a bunch of heavy wooden stakes that had supported a bunch of trees I put in a while ago. The Channellocks were a total struggle because every time I tried to apply these pliers to a stake, the jaw slipped open or closed before I could get a grip on the stake. It was a total wrestling match and after a while I gave up and ordered the Irwin pliers. The Channellock has the advantage that it is made in the USA. The Irwin is made in Taiwan "to Irwin specs" according to one customer review on the Irwin page. The American advantage is not that it's a better tool, but it does support American manufacturing. Unfortunately though, I must with regret recommend the Irwin tool instead. The Irwin tool is superior in these respects: 1) The Irwin tool has a pushbutton lock on the fulcrum pin that lets you set the jaw opening width and it will stay there until you press the button again and reposition the jaws. The convenience of this cannot be overstated. The tool can be repeatedly used without wrestling with it to get the jaws set right each time you apply it. This is the biggest reason to buy the Irwin. The other points below are less important, but still worth considering. 2) The Irwin's jaw shape is more useful, at least for gripping most things. It's conceivable that there is a shape that is more amenable to the Channellock's flatter jaw, so YMMV. 3) The fulcrum of the Irwin is located much closer to the jaws, which has the effect of making the end of the handles longer in relation to the point of leverage. This may afford the jaws a better grip. In addition, the effectively longer handles (i.e. further from the fulcrum) should provide greater rotational leverage. This point is somewhat speculative. I only noticed this issue when I laid the pliers over one another to compare them. The difference was quite striking. I don't have any objective test results to prove this point. Again, the locking issue is the big reason to get the Irwin. The jaw shape and this fulcrum-location issue are minor points in comparison. One possible consideration is that it's conceivable that the locking mechanism on the Irwin could be a point of failure. I have several Channellocks that I've owned for decades and they're still functioning at 100%. I'll update this review if the Irwin fails -- or in a few decades if it doesn't fail. :) It's very hard to rate the Channellock 480 on the 5-star scale. If the Irwin Groovelock didn't exist, the Channellock would rate a 5. Since the Irwin does exist, I really want to give the Channellock a 1 but somehow that doesn't seem quite fair. Thus the 3 rating. I bought the Channellocks on the price advantage when I bought them. Even if today's price advantage is to the Irwin (as noted above), in retrospect I would buy the Irwin over the Channellock given the relative pricing back in March -- and the advantage of both experience and hindsight. It should be noted though that the locking issue hasn't been as big a deal with the smaller Channellocks. The unwieldiness that comes with the size and weight of 20-inch pliers really highlights the issue. Nonetheless, my future purchases of Channellock-style pliers (if any, since I'm reasonably well-stocked) will be Irwin Groovelocks, which are made in similar sizes to every size Channellock.
