I used it as a grinder to remove power steering pulley.
It did what I intended. The oulley was frozen onto power steering shaft. I had to gring it off!

works for what I need it for
I use this bit generally for plastic (ABS, UHMW, and HDPE mostly). It cuts cleanly and effortlessly. I had purchased one in a smaller size about 5 years ago and used it daily but the last straw for that one was cutting a 3/4" dia hole in 409 Stainless steel. Stainless is hard on bits, that one included. I wouldn't recommend it for that type usage. Aluminum is fine, I have cut plenty of aluminum with it. Mild steels are generally ok to cut too so long as you use PLENTY of lubricant and keep the heat to a minimum. Please note that your cutting speed will have to reduce when you cut larger holes, the heat will destroy the bit and sometimes the part if you try to drill too fast or feed it into the work piece too quickly.

Works great
It worked great for drilling a 1 1/4 inch hole in my grill so I could install a silicone grommet for temperature probes.

Specialty bit
I needed to enlarge an existing hole in a stainless steel sink for a dishwasher air vent. Using a conventional hole saw was not going to work as I had no center. This was the perfect bit for the job. I just used some light water, and sprayed the bit as I drilled. I was getting metal shavings, so I can say the bit was cutting, not just burnishing. I used a fairly slow speed on a half inch drill. Worked perfect for my application. Do I think this bid could drill holes all day long in stainless? Absolutely not. If you have a few holes to do though these are probably a good value. I'm sure I can get a few more uses out of this as I only used one size. There's plenty of times where I need to enlarge a hole as I was off the first try, and these bits are really idea for enlarging an existing hole. I can't think of any other bit that would work as well. It's kind of like an EZ-out. When you need it there's not much else that works as well, and I think that's the case for this bit. For me, it was the perfect solution.

Easy to use, versatility, all in one
Used it on a plastic Scepter water container. Ease of use, easy to control, multi-purpose .

Does the deal; a bit pricey
Take it slow, allow the bit to cool, and pay attention to which depth gauge you are on. Does a nice cut

Awesome bit!
Received this bit a few days ago and used it yesterday to drill 6 holes into a thick tractor bucket. First time using a step bit. Used cutting oil as recommended and had zero issues. Went slow and allowed the tool to do the work. Flawless! And it’s still as sharp afterward as it was at the beginning. Very pleased!

Works, but is not smooth . . .
I bought this so I could put a new grommet into my Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker. My model was an older model and didn't come with the grommet that allows for temp probes to pass through and monitor the temp of the inside of the smoker and the meat being smoked. When I purchased the grommets (it came 2 to a pack), Amazon recommended this drill bit for making the hole in the smoker to allow for mounting the new grommet. I already have a drill bit like this one from a name brand, BUT it wasn't big enough to accommodate the grommet I was purchasing. So, since I needed this to make my project work and since it was about 25% of what I paid for my other one, I bought it. Also, I factored in that I was probably only going to need to use it once, ever, so it made sense to get this product at the same time of purchase as the grommets. When the grommets and drill bit arrived, I was pleased and excited. I cleaned up the outside of the smoker where I was going to drill and then put some painters tape over the designated spot to try and prevent the enamel from chipping. I then started to drill. The tape seemed like a good idea at the time, but the tape quickly peeled and got stuck in the drill bit. I eventually pulled the tape off completely about 1/3 of the way through for drilling. I needed to make a hole that is 1 and 1/4" in diameter, which was the second to last step on the bit. I was trying not to go too fast 'cause I was worried I would get overzealous and drill the hole too big and then I'd be Really Mad 'cause I would have messed up my smoker. So I took my time and kept on going. When I got about 3/4 of the way through, the bit was not very smooth - not like my other name brand bit. I was getting even more scared that I was going to mess up my smoker and it was making me nervous using this drill bit. However, I had already come this far and there was no turning back at this point. So, I pressed on, but gently. The biggest problem I was encountering was that the bit would catch on the opening it had created with each step that it passed through on the bit and I had to be careful not to cut my fingers, mess up my drill or mess up my smoker. It was frustrating because it wasn't a smooth drilling process at all. However, I eventually got to the stopping point and took the bit out. I could see a nasty burr of sharp metal hanging from the opening I had just created. So I put the drill on the other side of the hole and very gently drilled from that side just long enough to get rid of it and make the opening fairly smooth. Then, I was finally able to install the grommet and breathe a sigh of relief that I had not messed up my smoker. I share all of this with you, the reader, to let you know that this product did work, BUT it was not very smooth and if the name brand bit I had was big enough, I would gladly have used it instead. Knowing what I know now, I would caution you on purchasing this and remember my experience with this drill bit. It Can do the job, but you have to be super careful with it, or you might mess something up that you can't fix later and that would be very, very bad, I would imagine. I give this product 3/5 stars, because it did do the job and the price was nice, but you get what you pay for and you definitely have to be careful with it.

Evidently not for light-weight galvanzied steel
I needed to expand the 1/2" holes in a galvanized steel (1/16") to 7/8". This bit cut less than 5 holes before it wouldn't cut any further. Fortunately I had ordered three different Step Drill Bits for this exact reason. Two failed; but one excelled. Its more expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for... Absolutely useless
I'm actually re-writing this interview. This only deserves 1 star. First of all, was a complete different brand than what was advertised. Second of all, it is absolute junk. I used it to enlarge a hole in some mild steel. It didn't even cut, it didn't open up the hole by one step. Just spinning without biting in, basically like a dull bit. I would at least not have been so hard if it was just a cheap bit that only worked for a few holes, but the only thing this worked at was getting the metal hot. Junk
