Good device

The product just works great

Nice features but short life and poor customer support

We live in Minnesota and only use our pond for a short time each year. The light sensor failed with a "boom" after only about 12 months of use over three years. The company would not/could not provide a replacement part. It is available elsewhere for less than $13. (Search online for part number PT-1200-120C or GBTPT-1200-120C). It is easy to replace because you just remove the cover and then replace it without any soldering or anything. First, it is very odd that Alpine does not have parts available for their own products. This is especially odd since they built this product around part in question- this is the whole brain of the box. I tracked in down – it is available from a number of yard and pond lighting sellers for less than $13. The provision of parts and support is what wraps around your product to deliver higher value. (I just made a $2500 residential boiler decision based on this very issue. I am sticking with my current manufacturer because I was able to get parts and support for 20 years!) People aren’t going to re-order from a company when it fails and there are no spare parts or real support. Instead, they will go to your competitors. In addition, the Alpine product has failed because it is completely open with numerous large vents. Since the transformer becomes warm it fills up with bugs that short the unit out. This should be known to Alpine since it is in other customer reviews. As I reassemble the unit I am adding screens and seals. That should be the job of your engineering department and manufacturing. I felt like I was purchasing a premium product from an American company. Instead, I received a poorly designed, poorly supported product from a company that outsources everything to China. Why would they bother to exist since I could buy Chinese direct from China and get the same thing with the same poor support – and pay less?

Transformer includes a breaker button!

I am quite happy with this transformer based on initial use. It has a dusk timer setting so you do not have to move pins as the days get shorter. You can set it up to 9 hours just by pushing the button an appropriate amount of times or have it stay on until dawn. It also has a "breaker control" button in the back and I'm interested in seeing how well this works once we have a lightning storm. I live in Florida so we get these storms often and I've gone through three transformers in the last several years so I am interested in seeing how long this one holds up.

I got it all attached in about 15 minutes and it works great. I use it mostly for programmed lighting on patio at night but very easy to understand and change if you you want lights to remain on. Only been using a couple of months so cannot speak to its longevity but certainly looks sturdy and well made.

Works great!

The transformer works perfectly. I installed 17 landscape lights around my pond. They turn on at dusk and off 6 hours later. No dimming or flickering anywhere.

Solid Landscape Lighting Transformer

I was looking for a economically priced landscape transformer \ power pack that was indoor rated for my brother's landscape lighting project. This fit the bill great, it is indoor and outdoor rated so it can be mounted in a garage, crawl space, or next to a breaker panel load center as I have it mounted. Features: - Photocell to detect sunset - Sunset timer to set hours lights are kept on after sunset. Can be programmed from 1 to 9 hours or auto for dusk to dawn - On and off mode to override photocell, settings are remembered on power loss - Stainless steel hardware, fasteners on chassis are stainless Another aspect of this transformer worth mentioning is this transformer is a standard laminated steel core transformer which is lower efficiency and runs hotter than a higher price toroidal core transformer. This transformer seems to use the same chassis and is almost identical if not identical to other brands. I went with the alpine brand because it was clearly indoor rated but if you are interested the other brands which do not have clear indoor ratings:Paradise Lighting GL22772 200-Watt Transformer and Hampton Bay HD22772 (homedepot brand)
