Good kit, fun build.
This was my first Airfix kit and I found it to be a good kit overall. Some of the parts didn't have a positive connection and the glue and the modeler had to do all the work, but that's the only beef I had and the reason I couldn't give it 5 stars. But all the major components fit together nicely. I would recommend this kit to anyone considering it. ????

Very Impressed with Airfix of Late
I received this as a present as it matched the theme of kits I've been working on. I was particularly pleased given that I'm a sucker for the P-40. Bottom line, a very good kit for the money, and with just a little extra work can be taken to a really whole new level (there are a plethora of after-market add-on's if you want to really go all out). It's also a suitable kit for newbies or kids. Fit and finish were good, particularly in the wing roots where absolutely no filling was required. Airfix uses a softer plastic that most kit producers, but I have not found that to be a problem although I'd caution discrete use of cement as it will definitely distort the surface of some parts if you get careless. Decals were particularly well done. You get two sets of liveries in the kit, one for the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers), in this case the "Hells Angels" squadron. The other is for Lt George Welch's of the 47th Pursuit Squadron depicted as of 7 December 1941 and is shown on the box art. There are internal decals for the panel and other parts of the cockpit which came out surprisingly well. Paint is obviously not included, although both liveries are easily addressed through commonly available paints. My kit is done up using a combination of Tamiya and Vallejo products. Cement used was Tamiya extra thin along with some CA (super glue) for key parts. I use both the both thin and gel CA although as long as you prep the parts you can easily get by with regular plastic cement. Clear parts were okay and full confession I always struggle with these, but I got them decently masked and they came out fine. One problem with fit is the front windscreen, which does not fit the fuselage exactly and leaves a gap at the bottom left and right corners. It's not particularly noticeable but I know it's there, so a bit irritating. Canopies are secured with white glue (Elmer's is fine). You can get into a separate discussion on accuracy but one thing that's missing is the front iron sight, which on this model P-40 is placed forward of the pilot's windscreen more or less directly in front of the pilot. It's very noticeable for fans of this airplane, however at this scale would also be very fragile which is why I suspect Airfix dispensed with it. I considered scratch building one, but I also got concerned with it just breaking off, so abandoned the idea. So, very good kit and I'm thinking of purchasing a couple more to display different liveries and different stages of use. I kept weathering on this build to a minimum as it was a peacetime aircraft and would be kept in a better state of cleanliness than later in the war. Recommend this wholeheartedly as a gift to a young modeler.

Fun kit, very well made, great instructions, fairly simple.
I built mine as a custom build, I imagined what the Galactic Empire from Star Wars would use if they had WWII planes. The kit is very nice, pretty easy to assemble, comes with several build options, the parts are clean. I've built this kit several times, makes for a nice easy project one can complete in a day.

Overall it is a fine detailed model.
I cannot give a review about assembly. I have opened the box and the parts look awesome. The instruction quality seems very good. My only problem is the painting chart. It is not on the instructions. The paint needed is on the box in just numbers. I had to google each number for Humbrol paint to find the color.

The most accurate early P-40 available - both US and ...
The most accurate early P-40 available - both US and British/Commonwealth versions can be built from this kit. Minor error on the tail trim tab ( a little scribing will over come this). An enjoyable build.

The best 1/48 early P-40, by far
Crisp and consistent panel lines, and external detail at least at Hasegawa P-40E level. Previous choice was the Monogram kit, accurate in shape, but needing a lot of work to be brought to acceptable level of surface detail, and the Hobbycraft kit, plagued with gross shape inaccuracies.
