I've used this for a heavy duty UPS, and a coffee "maker." This is designed to do one thing: Allow you to plug in a device that would like to/need to have 20A available, but you only have a standard 15A plug. This doesn't magically make 20A available from the wall any more than changing the standard outlet in to a 20A outlet. I do not recall the gauge, but I would be confident that it is adequate. The built-in circuit breaker is a nice feature, and is an additional measure of safety that other, lesser products may provide. Furman is known as a high-quality manufacturer of professional grade line conditioners and surge protectors. The engineers are brilliant in their designs, but they cannot prevent you from overloading the circuits in your home. If you're not sure if the wiring in your home can safely support whatever device has a 20A plug, do the right thing and be safe. And for goodness sake, do not bend your 20A plug to fit a 15A receptacle.

My order was placed from Canada and arrived within 3 days in perfect condition.
The adapter is very well made and fits into a niche with very few competitors. I'm using this on a laboratory-grade line conditioner that is rated at 16A. The added security of the "breaker" switch if the apparatus begins to draw too much energy is a major plus for keeping one's mind at peace. I can also use this on my dual-boiler espresso machine that flips between 15A and 20A. It requires an adapter cable, of which I have one but it lacks the safety mechanism of the Furman. My order was placed from Canada and arrived within 3 days in perfect condition.

The Breaker is 12 Amps
If I knew the breaker on this item was only 12 amps, I may not have bought it. I used it for the Evolution Disc Cutter that is supposedly 2400w/20A, but the label on the side of the motor says 15A. This cord is solid, not cheap or flimsy, and the breaker only popped twice. At least it prevented my house breakers from tripping, but one of the specs listed is "20amp to 15amp plug", so one would assume the breaker is 15 amps.

Saved having to retro the wall plug
Did just what it said would do. We had a photocopier that needed to be moved to a location other than the "copy room" where the wall receptacle had the 30 AMP spade configuration. The new location had a standard receptacle but was still on a 30 AMP circuit. So this was an easy fix and gave us the added benefit of the built-in breaker. It's been working without the hint of a problem. The key is that both circuits in this scenario are 30 AMP, so the only difference was that the plug would not fit without a retrofit of the receptacle in the new location.

I bought this for use in conjunction with a Yellow Jacket 20-Amp Generator Cord, i have a 20 amp outlet in my garage for my RV but when i want to use the cord with my smoker, i use this adapter and it works just great. The only reason that i am not giving it 5 stars is because i dont like the corded design.

Eleminate ovderload concerns
The best feature of the adapter was its ability to monitor amperage heat build-up and automatically open the circuit to prevent equipment damage. I do not normally like to use automated devices to control my work speed or cut duration; however with the 12 inch electrically driven disc cutter saw that does not have a water cooling attachment, it is easy to cut too long for the good of the blade and motor. The Furman adapter greatly reduces this problem even when using #10 copper power cords attached to a dedicated 20 amps circuit.

The safest way to connect 20A devices to a 15A outlet
If you need to convert a 15A outlet for a 20A device this is the safest way to do it. I am using this for a 2200VA UPS system running from a 15A outlet, I had huge concerns about the implications of pulling too much current through wire that wasn't rated for 20A however the added 12A breaker adds a fail-safe to ensure this is not possible.
